I'm looking for a C182P this year. I have time. Cash. My limit is the mid-5 figures. I know that will be a significant challenge, maybe impossible, for the plane I want. For now, I'm set on the C182P and not looking at anything else. I've thought about this a good deal. I expect to keep this plane till I quite flying in 10-15 years. There are some nice planes out there where the owner spend money on avionics but also spend money on looks. I'm looking for the one with the avionics and old paint.

Appearance - not an issue at all inside or out
Damage history - not an issue so long as it was professionaly repaired
Avionics - 430W or 530W, A/P with altitude hold, IFR certified
Instruments - engine analyzer desired, not essential
Engine time - prefer low or high but flexible
Other goodies like visers, gap seals - don't care about

I'm watching TAP, Controller and others and have put out the word to local pilots. I understand fully my budget may not support my taste, but I'm going to try for a while. Maybe something will show up. If it doesn't, I'll look for something else next fall.

Jim, just dont let your LP get jealous :) Ill keep my ears open. And btw Im looking for a decent 140 or 150!

Tony, I know where you can get a chance of winning a nice 172 for cheap!

Any particular reason you want a P, specifically?

Also, you need to enable PM's or e-mail. I do have a potential lead for you, but don't want to post it all publicly.

I enabled PM and email. Thanks for reminding me on that.

still on hold here. the music is good, though. ;)

I called Avemco the other day, and after I asked a particularly difficult question she put me on hold to go ask the VP.

Avemco's hold "music" is a live feed of Potomac Approach. Nice touch.

There is a guy looking for a partner at KLOM with a 1980 182?... has been well maintained and has a 530, AP, lots of nice stuff in the panel. Where are you located?

Thanks, Rob. KLOM is Philadelphia, I think. I'm in eastern Iowa.

Thank you for holding... The plane I had in mind is a P model but doesn't quite fit the bill and the seller wants a much higher price. If I get a better lead I'll post it here!

An acquaintance of mine is reknowned as a Cessna Rigging specialist--that's all he does, full time. He usually has leads on good examples for sale. Here's his thoughts:

I know of several planes but I suspect he is talking 50K? You won't get into a 182P with Garmin for that price. About 65K would be absolute best I imagine? Not sure what his total budget is but 210's are a steal right now for about 0K more, something to consider?

I do know of one 182P that I maintain that would be in excellent condition w/new interior, STOL, low time, 430, etc but probably about 85K to get it. (listed at over 100K but the seller won't get that).

Let me know if you want his contact info, I'll PM it to you. I'm also trying to get clarification on the "0K more" for a 210; I think it's a typo.

When I say mid-5 figures, I'm talking a range. Let's say 40-60/65k. High 5 figures to me would be 75-95k. Low would be 20-40k or so.

I think the plane I want might be available for $60-65k if I am patient and perservere, but I do not pretend that I will in fact find one.

As I mentioned earlier, I am looking for a C182, not a C210.

Thanks to all for the comments, which are helping me refine my search.

One can certainly get 210's for same prices as reasonably outfitted 182's these days, but then you have the difference of (perhaps) unneeded capabilities, higher insurance rates...

Good luck in your search. My next plane will probably be a 182, if not a 206.
