WSJ editorial in favor of private ATC

People that think the airlines want it private for "modernization" should stick their head into a 20 year old airline airplane cockpit and see how interested they are in modernization of their equipment. They scream bloody murder when they have to spend another dime on equipment. The airlines think they own the sky and they want the deed. If you are under the impression that part 91 won't be paying user fees under a privatized system in the future, you are in for a big surprise.

Reasonable user fees wouldn’t be so bad if every dollar paid in taxes for the system was no longer collected.

But we all know that’s not how these “public-private partnerships” work. They continue to collect all the taxes and add the fees on top of it.

Airlines are some of the lowest campaign contributors in the entire public record. Average is $40,000 a candidate and very few candidates. I doubt they think they really own much.

With payouts running as high as $2M a candidate from law firms and pushing $1M from various other businesses, for far more candidates, aviation doesn’t own anything in DC money terms. They barely pay for lunch.

OpenSecrets.org — excellent website to see who really owns politicians. It ain’t airlines, that’s for sure.
