Just how does this happen???
They say that the plane was trying to take off from a taxiway, though. I find that odd, probably inaccurate.

(The TV reporter survived, but it involved some quality hospital time.)

Typical liberal.... never let the facts get in the way of the truth!Only in Florida.
Here are a couple more local articles I did find but not much extra data:I am just a little concerned with the chain of events here.
1. "Officials said the 72-year-old pilot from Acworth was attempting to take off from the taxiway." Why was he taking off of the taxiway? was the main runway closed or did he get confused?
2. "when he said the woman stepped in the path of his Piper aircraft." Why was she walking on a taxiway?
I'm also betting the "taking off on taxiway" comment was from an uneducated observer.

I don't consider my preflights complete until I hit my head at least once. For a minute there I thought you were talking about me. Last night I stood up with gusto right into a lowered C170 flap while working on our Ercoupe. Broke skin on top of my head.
The interstate must have been closed. Talk about stupid!Maybe she's related to the two women who forced my student to do a go-around because they were walking down a runway, one of them pushing a stroller.

...
Joe you sure its real???
That should have been a low pass moment. That would have gotten their attention.Maybe she's related to the two women who forced my student to do a go-around because they were walking down a runway, one of them pushing a stroller.
This was a Piper, she was walking, and she was hit in the head. I have to ask, how short was this woman?? The only thing that could hit you in the head would be a prop on a Piper.
Hey, my Piper has high wings!
Barb
As long as there are idiots calling nearly high-wing plane a Cessna, nearly every low-wing plane a Piper as well as believe a C-152 is a threat to national security, I'll take airplane identifications in a newspaper with a grain of salt until they specify the exact model with a reasonable amount of detail.Well Kenny, did you look at all of these ? One shows a Toga, and another one shows a Cherokee in the pictures.
Just had to add that.

So der!
Non-alcoholic, I hope!Hey that's what we drink in the northeast

A Cessna jet.
No, no, no... ya got it all wrong...Correction: Every plane is a Cessna. A two engine Cessna. A Cessna jet. They don't know from wings.
How can this be unknown? Did they not interview the pilot?Activity: Unknown Phase: Unknown Operation: OTHER
We know the whole thing would not have happened if he had filed a flight plan and the controller tower was telling him where he should taxi on the tarmacHow can this be unknown? Did they not interview the pilot?
Also no mention of a flight plan. But I guess we'll leave it up to the media to report that there was no flight plan.
