Did anyone else notice that when clicking on an airport on the map, the default is to go to the FBO information. This means you have at least two extra clicks to get to what you really want (Airport runway info or Weather). Also, the formerly intuitively named weather Forecast tab was renamed to TAF. Who the heck thinks that these changes are good ideas?? I think whoever is coming up with change for changes sake needs to be fired. This is terrible and reminds me of Microsoft changing the Office to the crappy ribbon interface because other programs (OpenOffice, LibreOffice, WPS etc) were catching up. I've been a Foreflight fan and user since 2015 but with counterproductive changes and with all the new alternative EFB (Stratus Insight, etc), I feel like it's going to be hard to justify renewing this year. Ugh! Hish
What pop-up depend on what you have turned on. If you have fuel prices selected, then the FBO page pops-up. If you have flight category selected, then weather/metar page pops-up. If the fuel and none of the weather option are selected then Info tab displays.
I feel they are trying to add too many cool factors in Foreflight overall. More of these I see are a distraction if trying to do some of them in flight. Sometimes simple is best.
Yeah...And it used to be rock solid stable too. Not anymore...but they come up with creative excuses for why it keeps crashing when you post about it on PoA. https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/foreflight-was-a-crash-monster-yesterday.124166/ I used to never hesitate to fly IFR with foreflight as my main/only navigation aid. I would NOT do that these days. No effin' way...I just don't trust it any more.
Ok, this is new and stupid. It makes no sense that having fuel prices selected on the map should lead to the FBO info coming up when I click on an airport. The FBO page is probably the least used tab of all so whoever thought it show by default under any circumstance is nuts. I've also noted that FF has become much slower and less reliable. I should say that I still love it but it didn't used to be love/hate.
Mine goes direct to info as well. I actually like the way airport information is organized better now. I can find what I want faster without having to scroll as much. Also having the full features of the flight plan editor on the phone now is really nice. I'm usually one who doesn't like UI changes but I think this one really is an improvement.
Programmers get paid to program. Not get paid to say we did a great job and it’s perfect. I see it with all the “updates” to the electronic medical record system we use EPIC. Now I’m not saying FF is perfect but the somewhat constant changes does get old IMO.
"Why are they messing up ForeFlight?" Because they can. Anyone remember the old American Motors Javelin commercial? "It's a great car, mom. I just made it better."
Well that's a fine kick to the testicles, since I just started down the FF rabbit hole because of that very problem with WingX. Picked a hell of a time to stop sniffing glue, er, using paper charts!
Not sure why some of you are having issues. FF in my iPad mini is rock solid and no crashes. I find the latest changes to be quite nice actually. I always hated the iPhone version was quite different than the iPad version and now that is fixed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
When I was sitting on my ipad mini2 waiting for a gen 5 to come out I remember having performance and crashing issues but now with the new one it's perfectly snappy and stable. I'm wondering if those having issues are running older hardware. Seems like in the brave new world of tablets, phones, and apps the developers leave anyone with hardware more than 2 years old behind.
It only goes straight to FBO info when you tap on a fuel price. If you have a weather layer (Ceiling, for example) showing and you tap on the ceiling, it'll take you to the METAR. Otherwise, it'll go to Info. Not so. It's been this way for many years - Ever since the fuel layer even existed, tapping a fuel price would take you to the FBO tab. Pro tip: If you want to go to Info and you have a fuel/weather layer showing, hold your finger down for a second near, but not on, the airport. Choose airport, then More->Details and it'll take you to Info. If I have fuel prices up, chances are I'm planning a fuel stop and thus want to look at which FBO is selling the cheapest fuel on the field and maybe check out their comments. It makes perfect sense to have the FBO tab come up when you tap a fuel price, IMO. And MOS was brought up a level. You used to have to go Forecast->MOS to get the GFS MOS forecast, whereas now it's just Weather->MOS. TAF was the default under Forecast before, but with all that room available to select what type of Weather you're looking for, why bury it? In the same vein, I wouldn't mind seeing the Forecast Discussion brought out from its hiding place under TAF. It isn't change for change's sake. I believe it has something to do with the recent changes to the iPhone version to bring it up to parity with the iPad version, and making a more consistent UI between them to make things easier to find. Did you try the reset option someone else posted on your thread? I haven't had any issues with ForeFlight crashing, and I'm usually flying with a prerelease version... That's how stable it is for the rest of us. So, I gotta think something is wrong with your iPad.
Oh, hell no...I read that and thought to myself "just why would I want to brick my iPad and then spend another hour unbricking it?" (and ForeFlight pretty much admitted at the time that they had a problem but didn't want to, or couldn't, fix it.) Apple...ForeFlight...a pair made in heaven. They were meant for each other.
Just go to settings and turn on show weather first. And honestly if TAF vs Forecast is running it for you.....
Might I recommend the book, “Who moved my cheese?” https://www.amazon.com/dp/0399144463/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Pbr3Eb6SSRSB8
I must have a defective Foreflight. One mine, if I click on an airport I get the same page I always have. Yes, "forecast" was replaced by "TAF", but the tab is in the exact same place as it always was and gives the same information. If you can't figure that out fast perhaps you should rethink your choice of avocation. I've never had a crash ever. The things you guys ***** about.
The changes are great improvement in user interface. Much faster to get the right airport data/info when needed. Nice to see improvements considering the install base not requiring the Performance level subscription. Who moved my Cheese?... excellent. :7)
