Hey, I know it's spam, and doesn't have to make sense. But I'm getting a lot of spam emails lately offering great deals on business jets.

I mean, shoot. Million-dollar aircraft. I fly a wood-and-fabric single-seater with a 60-year-old engine. Not many people upgrade directly from a Vespa to a Lamborghini....

Are there actually people who would drop a couple of mil on a spam offer? Are the spammers so utterly clueless that they think pilot flies a Learjet? Is it just nothing but an attempt to get me to click through to a malware-ridden site?

Or, maybe, they're just like the spiders in the Gary Larson cartoon....

When I begin my Introductory Biology classes I tell my students not to E-mail me with details of their lab assignments or if they'll need a make-up exam, I have staff for that (>500 students). I reinforce this by telling them that I get hundreds of E-mails a day. In addition to the stuff I have to deal with but don't want to, I get offers fro scientific equipment and reagents every day. I win the lottery every day; I won it this morning. I have people from other lands who want to give me millions of dollars if only I'll front them an administrative fee. I have women who want to date me, women who want to fornicate with me, and offers to enlarge my manhood in order to do so (not that it isn't sufficient for the task already, thank you).

And after all that I still have students E-mail me with details of their lab assignments or if they'll need a make-up exam.

Ya gotta love the future generation. :yesnod::frown3::frown3:

When I was a grad student making < $20k/year I used to read the "targeted" ads which Amex puts in my bill with amusement. (Why advertise to me? All my money goes to food and rent...)

One month the leading ads was for a NetJets Jetcard. Only $80k, for ten hours of flying in my very own jet! Since I had great faith in Amex's ad targeting algorithms, I nearly went out and bought lottery tickets that day...

Yeah I get a kick out of the Viagra spammers... I'm 71, why would they even think I might need it?

You see, I am Irish... And the Irish live in little hamlets, dress funny, drink a lot, ride around in small carts pulled by a wee little horse, and talk with a brogue...
The Irish inhabit an island that has been invaded by every would be conqueror in history, and the Irish have lost every single war against every invader - who then busily go about remaking Ireland look like the country they left behind, dress the same, speak their old language, etc...
And yet, two generations later the the invaders grand children live in little hamlets, dress funny, drink a lot, ride around in little carts pulled by a wee little horse, and talk with a brogue..
So what is mightier, the sword, or the ?
Viagra, we don't need no damned Viagra...

Hell I got a regular mail card invite to a Porsche and Jet event at PDK awhile ago.

I just looked at it and thought "what the hell?" I know that as a pilot and aircraft owner, and the databases of today and companies selling information that we will end up on some lists...but I own a 40+ year old C182 and drive a Hyundai.

How the hell did that translate to 100K+ cars and million dollar jets?

I just laughed at the absurdity of it all.
