Could not find during search for threads;

-did they find the person(s) who slashed the tires in AK?

-did the Barefoot Bandit get out of jail, how long did he serve?

Number 1 I'm not sure of.

Number 2, he was released on parole last month.

How about the Ryder Cup float plane guy? Is anyone here able to check the county court records to see if they actually charged him and how that went? It's impossible to find any news online other than the police chief calling him an imbecile.

Oddly I can not find any indication that charges were filed against the Ryder Cup guy, his passenger, or the two canoers similarly arrested during that same event. Amusingly, the pilot and the two canoers have prior criminal records.

City/township ordinance violations and possible subsequent convictions would be tough, if not impossible, to "dig up".

It's possible, and the town of Chaska did enact these ordinances, but they have no courts of their own and hence the Carver County court database I was searching should have had any criminal violations (the news article said it was a petty misdemeanor charge).

Yeah, I don't think the pilot was the imbecile.

Exactly. I keep hoping in vain to see a follow-up article saying how imbecilic the police were and how the pilot didn't violate any law that had jurisdiction over what he did. (As discussed on the thread about the event, there was no TFR and the lake is public under state law and actually listed by name in Minnesota's state regulations allowing seaplane operations.) But just like everything else, the news reports the exciting new event and then forgets to follow up on the rest of the story.

“My understanding is the FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] gave inconsistent information about whether the plane could land on the lake and whether they’d be in FAA violation,” Dave Hunt . . .

The FAA gave inconsistent information? Naaaaahhhhh. Hahaha

Well, the FAA's information was certainly "inconsistent" with the police chief's theory that "The FAA Flight Standards division is very interested in him. He's violated their rules and they will be talking to him on Monday."

I would venture the FAA is largely unconcerned with what the local ordinances are trying to exert over the lake. As far as they are concerned it is a matter as to whether it was safe to do so or not given the circumstances. States and local municipalities (and in the case of some lands like the national parks, agencies like the NPS) put restrictions on airplane use of the waterways all the time. THere's no federal preemption or even involvement.

Heck with only one canoe on the lake, it was probably the safest it had ever been for a seaplane to land on it.

Well someone had to marshal him to the appropriate parking.

The 'follow me' canoe.
I wonder if the trials of the two canoeists will bring up how they made it unsafe for seaplanes that were allowed to land during the tournament.

Water board them I say! Trump agrees with me.

I wonder if they were first time offenders, or career canoeists.

Canoer #1 had several speeding convictions, one minor in possession of alcohol, one driving while suspended, and one hunting pheasants without a permit.

Canoer #2 had nine speeding tickets, one failure to wear a seatbelt, one dropping a load on the highway (I assume this means cargo and not that he defecated), three alcohol violations, and a dui.

Seaplane pilot and two speeding, one driving an unregistered vehicle, and one Domestic Assault apparently plead down to disorderly conduct.

I was gonna bring up the guy that got busted for filming himself getting a BJ while piloting a helicopter over San Diego, but I know what happened to him. He died in a plane crash about a year ago.

What happened to the sole manipulator of the pilot in command?

Was he getting a BJ then too? At least he probably perished with a smile.

Not the same event, but hard to forget this one!

"Aircraft: PIPER PA-34-200T, registration: N47506
Injuries: 2 Fatal.

THE PRIVATE PILOT AND A PILOT RATED PASSENGER WERE GOING TO PRACTICE SIMULATED INSTRUMENT FLIGHT. WITNESSES OBSERVED THE AIRPLANE'S RIGHT WING FAIL IN A DIVE AND CRASH. EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE AND BODIES REVEALED THAT BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE PARTIALLY CLOTHED AND THE FRONT RIGHT SEAT WAS IN THE FULL AFT RECLINING POSITION. NEITHER BODY SHOWED EVIDENCE OF SEATBELTS OR SHOULDER HARNESSES BEING WORN. EXAMINATION OF THE INDIVIDUALS' CLOTHING REVEALED NO EVIDENCE OF RIPPING OR DISTRESS TO THE ZIPPERS AND BELTS.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:

  • THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S IMPROPER INFLIGHT DECISION TO DIVERT HER ATTENTION TO OTHER ACTIVITIES NOT RELATED TO THE CONDUCT OF THE FLIGHT. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE EXCEEDING OF THE DESIGN LIMITS OF THE AIRPLANE LEADING TO A WING FAILURE."
