What did you do today?

.... So that means I'm good right?

remember the little bit from Lethal Weapon 2 - boyfriend is afraid of Murtaugh...

George: Mr. Murtaugh has a gun.
Martin Riggs: Yeah, but it's an old gun and he's not a very good shot.

Im a little behind on my pop culture references...was a month old when it came out.

You made a lot of people feel old today. I was old enough to watch after my parents went to sleep, because I was young enough to not be allowed to watch it when they were awake.

I spent two hours playing "for the love of Pete, please just connect me to a human" with the Xfinity bots. It has been eight months of the worst internet service I've ever experienced and their "time-saving AI troubleshooter" is stupid. It just reboots your modem and hangs up on you, with no way to call back and say, "Hey, guess what, THAT DIDN'T WORK, I actually need to talk to someone who can do something about the issues I'm having" and instead just puts you in an endless loop of "Are you ready for me to reboot your modem?" :mad2::mad2::mad2:

I finally got in the hold queue by claiming "account issues" to the bot, where I was informed that the queue was 25-61 minutes long...and then I was disconnected from the call, twice, after being on hold for 15 minutes...and then spent a further 27 minutes on hold. I finally got to a human through their online chat option by some wizardry that I don't remember after being blocked by their stupid bot for an hour before I even started trying to call, and while I was in the process of working through (hopefully) a resolution to my issues, I got three callbacks from my previous attempts to hold for an agent.

I wasted my entire afternoon and I would like to take my faulty modem out to the back 40 and relieve my anger at it with a .45 or maybe even a .308. :incazzato:Sadly, I'm a "city girl" for now, and shooting in the backyard would be highly frowned upon here.

The same thing happened to me earlier this year, and ultimately required picking up a new modem and then the technician came out.
The tech said he said he positively loathed the AI bot they're using, because it just meant that by the time he got to someone's house they were often irate at having wasted so much time. It apparently has an extraordinarily small success rate. Surprise!

If guns are not allowed, you could always smash it with a bat, office space style.

One thing I have tried in the endless loop phone trees is using the phrase "returning a call." Boom. Front of the line.
This AI bot only recognizes four phrases - tech support (which leads to aforementioned 'let's reboot your modem'), billing (which leads to pay your bill or hang up), account issues (which is how I managed to get on hold every time) and one other dead end that I've forgotten already. I couldn't say anything besides what they'd preprogrammed the bot to accept. It is incredibly stupid.

I've run into that and mumbled gibberish and it has finally given up and transfers me. Not the Residential Xfinity bot though. Maybe try the Comcast/Xfinity business number as an end around, because that always gets me a person.

One reason I’m semi addicted to Apple stuff, on the rare occasions when I have to use tech support, I either get a human almost immediately, or callback usually in less than 10 minutes. Never failed to resolve the issue.

Took my first Young Eagle flight today. It was a 9 year old girl’s birthday and she and her mom enjoyed every minute of it.

On final I even showed them what happens if the engine goes out (simulated). In my experience, that is one of the greatest fears associated with GA from non-aviators, so I always try to include that at least a little bit so that they see that it’s not the end of the world. (And yes, I brief that in preflight.)

A child's smile warms my cold black heart every damn time.

Unless you're locked out of your account. Then it's 3 weeks to verify identity. Not kidding.

Fixed my Pfaff sewing machine. I was stitching up a tool roll to organize my tie-downs prior to Oshkosh and the bobbin holder thing got all messed up and broke the needle, seemed like a timing issue. Tore into it today, got everything readjusted and lubricated and returned it to service. Very valuable tool to have in the shop.

Continued building a couple of cabinets for my garage/shop. These are for the space under the workbench that is currently a cluttered mess of tools and materials on a big shelf. First major project with my new table saw, first time building cabinets and drawer boxes. It's been a learning experience, as I expected it would be. So far plenty of "lessons learned", and what looks to be a couple of serviceable, nice looking if not perfect cabinets out of the deal. When the edge banding, drawer slides, and hinges get here tomorrow I should be able to finish them up.

I'm firmly on the Android and Microsoft side of this, but my current PC has stumped three entire IT companies to the point they just gave up and said it can'tbe fixed. It will not remotely access the server at the office through VPN. It just will not do it. It runs great, will do everything else very well, but just not that.

It would be nice to be able to open any project folder and just work. But no, I have to have the project posted to sharepoint, download it and work, then have someone in the office take my updated files and overwrite what's on the server.

Blew the charge pipe off my 6.7 super duty.

Currently eating pork (it thankfully still hasn’t gone price crazy) and vegetables from my garden. (I suspect “victory gardens” will become more prevalent next year, in places that don’t have rules against them… or atleast they should be). Green beans, beets, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, garlic, potatoes, horseradish, Jerusalem artichoke, parsnips, turnips, radishes, lettuce, spinach, are all doing great this year (knock on wood). The mulberries came in heavy and made some nice jam, cherry orchard should start producing next year. My apricot trees died for some unknown reason (I suspect nitrogen poisoning, very fertile land and a flock of birds nested in them for a couple weeks and painted the trunks and ground around them white with their excrement. My carrots failed, sweet corn suffered extreme wind damage but will still give enough for the family for the year, unfortunately not enough to give away any like I normally do. Bee hives were extremely active today and judging on past years it’s a very good indicator of a bumper crop of honey.

Caught some fish, drank some beer. And stayed awake long enough to post it before it became yesterday. But not long enough to type many details, sorry.

My mom let my dog out the other day at lunch. Hunting dog was on point for 20 minutes. Turns out she was pointing on a deer. Mom came by to get the dog, deer ran away. But it was pretty badly injured. She went back, couldn't find it. Yesterday going out to dinner I was at my dad's/neighbor. My sister said something smelled bad on the porch. Dad blamed hunting dog injuring a chipmunk that probably died under the porch. I get to the car... I see 2 very stiff deer legs in between the UTV snow plow and the shed.

So...today I brought the bobcat home, endured the stank of the rotting carcass. Then dumped it on the vacant wooded lot owned by the park district behind him.

Took a 5 hour bus tour into Denali NP. Saw moose, caribou, grouse, hawks, golden eagles, and Dall sheep. No bears, though.
I used to fly tours around Mt. McKinley and Denali NP. Is the road still closed going to Kantishna Roadhouse?

Really surprised bears were not visible. Maybe they were on a picanic...

Was the mountain visible?

Had to do a club checkout to downgrade to the 2-seat spam can. Went back after dark and put my fresh Cessna 152 type rating to work resetting my night currency.

The road is closed at the bridge and they're still making repairs. The bridge is in place and it looked like they were letting bicycles and pedestrians go across, but it's not ready for cars yet.

The mountain was peeking through the clouds and we were able to see it for a few minutes yesterday. This morning we took a jeep excursion along the Denali Hwy and it rained the entire time, so not the greatest sightseeing but it was still enjoyable. Tomorrow we take the train to Anchorage and fly home from there on Tuesday.

My daughter sent me some photos of remote Alaskan coast lines today (she departed from Seattle last Tuesday on a ship for a two week cruise). It looks amazing and I hope someday to go there myself. It was overcast and windy with a 55F temp where she was at, but it looked amazing and unworldly untouched by civilization.

(Yesterday, 'cuz I didn't click "Post" for some reason...) Hung out with the kids and monitored the basement because we got 8" of rain overnight and a power outage to go with it. Luckily, we live on top of a giant hill, but it was coming down so fast there was what looked like standing water on the surface even in "flat" areas. Culverts were gushing, ditches were full, but luckily the basement stayed dry and the power was only out for about 4.5 hours.

I saw an albino deer. It's probably been a couple decades since I last saw one.

Yesterday I gave a personal tour of the USAF Museum to @GoFly and his son who is an F-15E Pilot. They didn’t seem bored.

Anyone who might be interested in a similar experience, let me know when you’re around.
Great job, Rick! I’ve been wanting to take you up on this for a while. I need to make it happen soon.
