Wellbutrin for SAD

My wife is now showing interest in beginning training toward PPL. She was transiently on Wellbutrin for Seasonal Affective Disorder. Will this be a problem toward a Third Class Medical?

Yes.

I'm sure someone will be along to suggest that you contact an expert like Dr. Chien before proceeding any further.

What he said^^^
DO NOT ATTEMPT THE MEDICAL WITHOUT HIS HELP.
Once the process starts there is no turning back, and then even Sport Pilot becomes unattainable.

@tbix ... as the others have said, the medication and condition you stated will require extra attention from the right AME for her to obtain her medical certificate....

There are very few in the nation who have not just the expertise in this area, but the willingness to help new students....

One of those is Dr. Bruce Chien, www.aeromedicaldoc.com

Reach out to him to ask how to get started. Then hire him to manage the case all the way to and through the physical exam.

What does "transiently" mean? From what Dr. Bruce has said, if it was less than 60 days there MIGHT be an inexpensive way to get her certified, depending on what the actual diagnosis (the code used for billing) was. But as others have said, Dr. Bruce is your best guide to this. Do NOT blunder into an AME's office with a completed MedXPress as that will only lead to deferral and a lengthy process. Good luck!

BTW, "Dr Chein" and "Dr Bruce" are both referring to Bruce Chein in Peoria Illinois. If he doesn't wander through and see your post soon, someone will probably pipe up with his contact info.

He's not been in Peoria for a while. He's in Bollingbrook now.
