Ways to get my ATP

Airline Transport Pilot (ATP)
Pilots that hold a Commercial pilot certificate can obtain ATP rating by completion of any of the courses above. Additional simulator time is required for those pilots seeking to obtain an ATP rating in a Recurrent Training course.

Wow. I would say this is something to consider. For a bit more $$ you can get a type rating at the same time.

And I think Ted would appreciate learning a new airplane. It makes sense to do it all together, IMO.

I did my ATP in 1985, and it was one of the easiest checkrides I've taken. Oral was on the airplane (Cessna 404) and the ride per the PTS. And I took my ATP ride with an FAA ASI.

Agreed. Mine was also the easiest FAA check ride I've done, though I think that is mainly because it is supposed to be, i.e. you are already a professional pilot and should already be performing to ACS (nowadays, or PTS in your time). What I meant about FAA oversight was more about all the other stuff leading up to the check ride, i.e. CTP, which costs many thousands of dollars for, IMHO, not much value added (other than the level D sim time for those of us who are new to the transport cat aircraft).
