I was on the Harley today, en route to near Augusta when I saw the vehicle. If it had FOUR holes in the front fender it would be a RoadMaster; however, it's a Buick Special(1955). I turned around to go back and get a closer view. It came from the south quite a few years ago; this owner has had it for several years and purchased it from a local dealer. While I was was walking around it, he on an ATV came across the field. He told me about it and said that it's uncomfortable for him to drive. When he gets the seat moved appropriately forward the steering wheel gets in the way. The statement only made sense when he rapped his knuckles just below his right hip -- "KNOCK - KNOCK" while saying, "I have artificial legs." He climbed off the John Deere ATV, entered the Buick and started the V-8; and he was right: the steering wheel was tight against his crotch area. The engine sounded good. $12,000 was on the sign, though he said he's going to lower it to $10,000. It surely looks good for 59 years old. I didn't get his name but I know where it is. When I arrived at my daughter's house and showed the pictures, son in-law said,"Oh, that's over in Pittston." He had seen it.
That wasn't the only interesting occasion today. At the first stop light after that rural setting I came up behind a car with Maine registration #8752 TW. I pulled alongside the driver who told me he'd had that plate for just over a year. I told him that I had #8752 from 1998 to 2014 and that plate had been my father's from 1961 until his death in 1998. The similarity was such a strange coincidence. (When I sold the Austin Healey, #8752 is now on my cousin's Lexus, so it's still in the family.
