Planning a few days in Vancouver this summer. Can anyone suggest an operation where I might grab a plane and an instructor for a flight around the area? Not looking for a checkout, just some fun.

I don't know about the flying part but this place is pretty cool. Watch the seaplanes on the water runway at CYVR.

"The Flying Beaver", man what's not to like about that place. Hey maybe that's where female pilots hang out? Maybe? I dunno. Everskyward is a female, she's a pilot, and, well, you know. :D

One of my favourite pubs when I am in the vicinity of YVR.

To the OP, there's several airports in the vicinity. Closest to YVR is Boundary Bay, a short distance inland on the Fraser River. Further up valley is Pitt Meadows. Both have excellent GA services including trading and rental operations.

Suggest you call the folks at Classic Aviation at Pitt Meadows. He's a very experienced pilot and runs a specialty training school and may be able to give you a more personalized service for what you are looking for.

Vancouver is in a spectacular setting...on a sunny day. Those are rather rare in winter though.

More likely their namesake, the venerable de Havilland Canada single engine bush/float planes that still grace the Fraser River floatplane ramp visible from the deck of the pub.

And yes, the female pilots that hang there are usually a lot of fun to talk to.

Dang no gift shop! I was curious what their T-shirts were like. Could have some cool ones with a name like that. ;)

Years ago there was a similar bar & grill on Va Ave just north of KATL, Spondivits, and they had one that said "I'm so happy to be here I could just shet"!

Get outa here, I like my idea better! Gheeshhhh. ;)

I do believe they sell some branded merchandise, ball caps, shirts, that sort of thing. That would be too good a marketing opportunity for them to miss.

You and I are going to invite the ban hammer. Because alongside the flying Beaver floatplanes, that seaplane base also hosts the de Havilland Canada twin-engine floatplane, affectionately known as the Twatter.

Beavers have tails but they also have teeth. You might not want to approach any female pilots with that line. ;)

As long as they don't bite too hard, talking about beavers right? o_O

Of course the animal kind, or are you referring to something else, hmm? ;)
