What's the best way to update the charts in a 430?
I need to pickup up a card reader?
Who should I get the charts from? Garmin?

Thanks.

Garmin has a little better pricing than Jeppesen.

The card reader/writer is proprietary for the 430w. Dunno about the 430.

FWIW, it's not charts. It's the nav database.

Both are required to fly an RNAV approach or departure.

Yeah, 430W. Can't seem to find anything that bundles the Pilot app with chart updates alone. I'll drop them an email to see if there's anything else they can do.

You have to buy the reader, and the Jepp updates. Updates alone are $360 ish for single region.

Jepp is the only game in town for a 430. Garmin offers nav data updates for the WAAS units but not the non-WAAS, based on clicking around their site.

You choose between Eastern and Western region (unless you want it all, which is a only slightly more). Midwest is included in both.

Highy recommend getting a second data card (Ebay is handy for this). Otherwise, you have to remember to bring the data card home from the airplane to do the update.

I have been using Jepps forever, getting pricey, anyone know the price of the Garmin chartreader?
