Yesterday was a gorgeous day to fly in the mountains of TN, N GA, NC and SC.

Got invited to fly to Rutherford County (KFQD) to grab a bite to eat by another Light Sport pilot.

Some really beautiful country:

Nothing special, but I did ty-wrap my GoPro to my baseball cap and managed two pretty decent landings (best viewed in 720p HD):

In the second, the slip was intentional - I'm often high enough on final (though the GoPro masks that) that a little fine tuning with a slip gets me where I want to be.

I flew over in a straight line from 1A3-KFQD. That meant climbing to 9,500' for terrain clearance and a better chance of gliding to something hospitable in an emergency and a bit of a tailwind.

Looked like this in a "cruise climb" to get to 9,500' with the higher terrain near Asheville in the distance:

On the way home I angled south a bit, keeping the higher terrain off to my right.

I think the photo of the rock outcropping was taken near Lake Jocassee, in the lower center here:

Pretty both ways, but overall I prefer lower, safety permitting.
 
The visibility in the thing is really something!

I LOVE that canopy. It just seemed to disappear and give you the entire vista for a window.

Nice landings, buy the way.
