Two planes go off RW into water in St. Petersburg

It's a short runway, but not that short.

Original pictures showed the aircraft floating after running of runway .thats a good thing. Glad everyone is ok.

The one today was a Velocity, and supposedly outfitted with VGs and Vortelons to allow it to get into short runways.

It was only in three feet of water.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue said it appeared the pilot over shot the runway and skidded into the water.

They are supposed to have a 1500' landing distance, so it shouldn't have been an issue.

We're built like surfboards, and float good!

Another of many, many examples of why one should be instantly ready and willing to GO THE HELL AROUND! More important when your landing speed is higher like ours.
Have done so as much as several times when the conditions and air sucked. All ended safely.
