So I'm on the elliptical behind two women on the treadmill that are having some sort of argument over the news. There are two TV's visible. One has CNN on it and the other Fox news.
Redhead: "CNN is so biased! All they care about is (blablablablablabla)..."
Fat chick: "Oh yeah, Fox is seriously one sided, all they talk about is (blablablablabla)..."
There is no sound on the TV's of course. They play music in the background. Some Ace of Base was playing at the time. I'm watching the TV to my left. I see pictures of little French people picking through stuff on a mountain. A minute later on the TV to my right I see pictures of little French people picking through stuff on a mountain. I see a picture of some crazed German guy on one TV. I see another view of the same crazed German guy on the other TV. I see desert, smoke and crazy looking people wearing black bedsheets on TV #2. Then I see more crazy looking people wearing black bedsheets, in a desert except without the smoke.
Yes I get media bias. Yes I get bad reporting. But the news is the news. A plane flies in to a mountain. That's the news. Okay it was deliberate. That's the news. I don't care about all the drivel and diatribe spewing forth from the newscasters and commentators, and I can't hear it anyway. It's all the same. I can figure out that 30,000+ angry extremists Muslims bearing machetes and AK's hell bent on killing even their own people is a bad thing on my own. You don't have to spin it one way or the other. Can't people in general be more discerning?
I'm the one that changed TV#1 to CNN (I know where they hide the remote. It's in the drawer behind the front desk counter.) The morning in the gym is about the only time in the day I have to catch up on news. I wanted to turn the other TV to the local news, but the redhead wouldn't have it. But what was on TV#1 was some sort of station called "HGTV." Basically, "Highly Gay TV". It was all about some stupid, asinine show about mostly gay people and some straight people who were probably gay but pretending to be straight looking at buying houses that they couldn't possibly afford. It had all the appeal of an infomercial. For reusable adult diapers. WTF watches this stuff? People must get bored late night or something.
Sports is kind of another rant of mine. I don't need ESPN. Watching yesterday's NFL/NCAA/MLB/NHL/AFL/CIO/NSA/APO/DST game is like listening to recycled talk radio. It already happened. I don't need to see it again. I probably didn't watch it the first time because I could care less about it unless it's something of local interest. A ball goes in a hoop. Great. A hockey fight breaks out. Okay, admittedly, that's fun to watch. MMA? Alright, you got me there. I'll watch that.
Anyway, I'm done venting. Thanks for listening.
