Turkish C-130 Inflight Breakup! WTF!

I’m wondering about the wingtip smoke trails…

Built in 1968. Probably had years of hard landings and stress cracks not documented (and lack on maintenance and inspections)

The front fell off, then the tail is my guess.

That one used to be a former Air America 130 used in VN. Had tons of hard landings undocumented for reasons
And at 57 yrs old, there’s no telling what this old E model went thru. They just signed a contract last month to start getting refurbed J models to replace their aging fleet of Bs and Es.

Weren’t the E-models the ones that needed the spar mod because of the air tanker wing fold?

I wonder if this particular plane had that done.

Looks like the fuselage was severed at the wing box production breaks...doubt that this was "just" an inflight breakup....more like it was assisted.

Highly doubt. Extremely expensive. Fat Albert is having it done but it will take 2 years.

Looks like the wing was more or less intact and the fuse failed both fore and aft of the wing, which is odd.

Possibly. I read their Bs and Es went through the ERCIYES modernizing in 2006 but that’s just avionics / comms upgrades.

Wasn't the Marine KC-130 accident near Memphis several years ago an inflight breakup that started with a prop coming off and slicing through the fuselage?
#2 prop came apart and sliced the front of the fuselage off, the rear stayed attached.

Edit to add: The majority of the legacy C-130s still flying in the US military inventory have been modded swapping the 8-bladed NP2000 prop in for the older 4-bladed props.

Better make it 13

Individual tank vents (there are 3 tanks in each wing, 1 main tank per engine and an aux tank at the wing root) are more inboard. The fuel is coming out of the dump masts on the wingtips.
Allow myself to correct …. myself. Talking with older heads at work, it sounds like the E models did vent out the dump mast. I don’t have access to E pubs but the H has a pressure relief valve on the outboard tanks that also vent into the dump mast.
