TSA mistakenly publishes the truth about threat to civil aviation

Whoa, stop the madness, next thing youre going to tell me is Osama BinLaden isn't lurking under my bed and the Easter bunny isn't real ether :nonod:

Are we surprised ? Just another bureaucracy out of control. General aviation was never a credible threat in the general scheme of things.

I'm not security expert but it was obvious to me from the start that the terrorists are highly motivated and will go beyond normal circumstance to achieve their motive.

So unless TSA is going full cavity searches for small amounts of explosives or doing 100% xray scans there is no security. This is all a show for the masses.

If you recall in Man on Fire the ex CIA guy puts an explosive up the rear of the "brotherhood" cop/mobster and blows him up.

That bit of explosive in a person on an airplane at 40,000' could take it down. Everyone knows this and this is why so much money was spent to recover the Brazillan jet that crashed over the atlantic....to make sure it wasn't terrorism.

If I am going to kill myself anyway what difference is it to have explosives planted in my body by any means even an operation. Drug lords do surgy on dogs to put drugs in them and then remove the drugs when they inside the border. TSA is an expensive farce on taxpayers.

No this is targeted misinformation. This is way above the bureaucracy. Who created the TSA and why? What is the real motive?

To be fair, they tried that in Saudi Arabia. Apparently 1 lb of explosive plus detonator. Would hate to see the TSA's counter to that.

Just a difference of scale. I just think, "What could a Civic do?". A Civic could put a hole in a wall just as ours can almost make it a few feet into a "soft" structure.

So just because statistically there hasn't been many attacks by explosive, we shouldn't take security precautions?

I think the TSA is mismanaged and often over extends its bounds and employees often abuse their authority. However I still think we need different types of scanners and security measures. I think our security measures have probably deterred many terrorist attacks.

The 2006 transatlantic aircraft plot was a terrorist plot to detonate liquid explosives carried on board at least 10 airliners travelling from the United Kingdom to the United States and Canada

Bombs Found On U.S.-Bound Flights Tied To Al Qaeda, More Could Be Sent, White House Adviser Says

I think attacks are often mounted from other countries, because often other countries have lower security. Should we lower our security, to make it easier for terrorists to mount attacks from the US?

How could you lend any credibility to a site that makes such dishonest and ignorant claims?

No Evidence of Terrorist Plots Against Aviation in US

Terrorism has been used to suck more money out of people than prostitution.

I read somewhere you're more likely to be attacked by a great white shark twice before being hurt by terrorism.

While we need security, we don't need a blank check and unlimited spying authority.

Hmmm How do the Israelis do airplane security? Groping old white women or just towelheads?

Not going to change a thing.

Besides, the counter argument that will be made is that lack of an active threat doesn't preclude emergence of a future threat.

Nope, it won't.

Based on that logic, we should have all cavities inspected everytime we leave private property and go out in 'public'.

It's for the children....

You don't see Israel eliminating their security protocol, do you? Part of the reason that their record is so good, is their security is so good.

Yeah wonder what they do? Cavity search everybody?

What is your obsession with cavity searches and race?

I'm don't know, but I get the impression that the Israelis are more ad lib, less politically correct, more flexible, more secretive, and more intelligently use their resources. I get the impression that they are more focused on security, then arbitrarily making bureaucratic procedures.

I've flown in/out of Israel a couple times, plus 1 round trip domestically. How do they do it? Far more professionally than Thousands Standing Around.

While standing in line at Ben Gurion you will be approached (sometimes more than once) by security types asking questions. Answer the questions. If asked the same question by a second person, answer the question. They are watching your body language, etc. Your bags get X-rayed before you get to the ticket counter. After that you go through the metal detectors, etc. But, there is always the air that they know what they are doing and why, but done professionally.

Coming back to Tel Aviv from Ellat (sp?) I managed to trip their explosives residue detector with my camera bag. Why, I don't know. Too much nitrates in the soil at Petra? In any case, I went into the back room with their security guy while he did follow-up tests on all my gear. My wife, of course, was outside worrying if we would make our flight. I had been told not to worry, that we would make the flight, but she didn't know that. All my camera gear was bubble wrapped, boxed and sent as check baggage. More junk to dispose of in the hotel. I still don't know why it triggered, they checked and we made the flight. Again, done professionally with none of the "do you want to fly today" bluster.

Hey, they're surrounded by people who want to push them into the sea. I understand their concern. And, they seem to do a good job of ensuring that problems don't occur on their flights without making people mad at them. Of course, they don't have the volume of flights that a major airport in the US would have, but...

Hey! just because we haven't been attacked by pink elephants doesn't mean we should stop our efforts to protect us from pink elephants!!!!
