TSA misses 500 rounds of ammo in man's carry-on

Hey they are stopping 3.5oz containers of liquids with almost 100% effectiveness! Now do you want them to take their eye off of that serious threat to just look at harmless ammo? Is there no pleasing you!!!???? ;)

What do you think he was going to do - bang on the primers with his plastic fork....one at a time?

Such a danger..... :dunno:

Actually, that is not true. I may or may not have made it through security with a full, unopened, bottle of Dr. Pepper and full tube of toothpaste.

Inadvertently, mind you. And I've lost the same several times.

I've never successfully made it through with my pocket knife, though. I've probably spent 3x more than it's worth shipping it home when I forget to leave it at the house or in the truck.

Don't admit to that lest you have to face federal charges.

Yes, but you are a well known smuggler. :D

"They put a lot of security out here," said passenger Cy Smith, "We're spending a lot of money as taxpayers, and it shouldn't have happened. So, if we're going to spend our money, they need to do the job correctly."

Well, Cy almost got it right. We shouldn't be spending that money on TSA.

NO BODILY FLUIDS!!!

Hmmm. Bob, maybe they were .303 Savage? :D

I forgot to leave my little swiss army knife one time. Got to security and figure I'll just let them have it and put it in the tray with my keys. Put it back in my pocket on the other side.

I've lost three of those little multi tools you carry on your keychain. I don't carry one anymore, and do miss the handiness, but at $30 a pop......

I didn't admit anything. I said I may or may not. Maybe I may not.

Shh... don't tell anyone! ;)

By the way, I took this opportunity to update the thread. I haven't been bothered since. So, as I said at the beginning, I figure I tripped some flags. I was cooperative, they did their jobs, and they've left me to go about my business saving puppies since.

Yeah, I fully expected to loose it. Didn't even try to hide it.

Sure, and if he gets it to work he'll make an anoying pop and only hurt himself.

I say let him try:lol:

Had to be a brick of .22s

Most likely. I have to be careful when I travel. If I go by Tiger or my car, then I can take anything with me. I had used the same bag for a trip where I did some wilderness hiking. I had a large, fixed blade knife in my bag that I use for hiking/camping. Yep, forgot it was still in my bag, got home from the wilderness trip, weant right to Philly International with the same bag. They were not to happy with me but at least allowed me to just check the bag with the knife, and move on with life. If it had been a gun, and or ammo, it would NOT have been pretty. Yes, now I dump the contents of the bag, and re-pack before trips.

I do similar, I have a couple of heavy duty military tool bags that see duty as concealment for "large" hand guns, range bags, tool bags and luggage.

I have not traveled commercially by air since all this Homeland Security nonsense started. I just do not like the idea of surrendering my protections of the Constitution and Bill of Rights simply because I want to fly.

First it was just air travel, now it's leaching over onto trains and busses, next it will be all modes of travel, cars, bicycles, whatever. It will all be "legal" since it is us who volunteered to use those methods of travel.

In Nazi Germany, to travel anywhere, you needed to have the proper documents on your person. How far are we away from that? The Nazis called it The Fatherland, we now call it The Homeland. We used to call it America. The Nazis set up concentration camps, we set up Guantanamo. The Nazis monitored all radio signals, we monitor everything.

I know it's verboten to resort to using ****** as a comparison, but we do seem to be headed in the same direction. Now all we need is some charismatic orator to organize the rabble in the parks, the ones who are screaming down with Capitalism. We have already started our march toward National Socialism, it won't take much more to get us there.

We do have one advantage though, we are becoming very safe when we travel. Nothing like security, even if it is temporary.

My dad carries the little Swiss army knife and has had mixed success with TSA. My wife and just look or them on sale and send him a couple at xmas and birthdays. Now when they take it he knows he has a spare in his luggage or at least back home

You are mistaken if you think the sound and fury of TSA for airlines, etc actually provides security.

Go to restroom. Pull the bullets off the shells, drain the powder into a metallic container and attach a fuse? Anybody here ever heard of a suicide bomber?

Not rapidly enough, without spilling all the powder, quietly, without equipment also on the "no fly" list...

So basicly yes can't be done to turn it into a bomb. Pop culture makes it seem so easy but I spent a good half hour pulling 50 odd 223 Rem rounds, and that was with a bullet puller.

Then one must remember that smokeless powder won't make much of a bomb.

It was described as "ten packages containing five hundred rounds" that was wrapped in "grey tape so that they would not be identifiable to TSA personnel".
-harry

sounds more like a smuggler than anything else

I agree that it would not be easy but even a relatively small amount of smokeless powder can be used to make a device that could cause harm. If someone can smuggle 500 rounds of .22 then it should not be too difficult to smuggle the components of a small bomb. The truth is that current security measures can be defeated fairly easily, especially if one is willing to risk getting caught.

Bingo, it's not that the ammo is a danger, it's that if you get the ammo on you can get, well anything on. Ten packs of C4 each the size of 50 rounds will ruin your day, even if it's only the size of .22s.

FWIW I think the best you could do with the powder is make a mean incindeary, but you can do that with duty free booze too:dunno:

EDIT, also seems that all the TSA can do is catch stupid terrorists, not to hard to beat the screeners if you are a pro. I strongly feel that the REAL security comes from good old fashioned police work tracking down the baddies before they make their attempts along with passengers who aren't going to sit there while something bad goes down.

Anyone with any serious training can bring down an airliner. TSA is nothing more than government theatrics designed to create the illusion of security. The only real benefit to most of us is it gives thousands of jobs to those who would otherwise be on welfare.

Oops, I guess there is no advantage, either way, taxpayers have to support them. Well maybe in the sense that if they were not "working", they would be laying around their trailers drinking beer and dreaming up their next scam.

I'd rather they be on welfare, they aren't screwing with the traveling public that way.

Yeah, but, but...

At least Gary would get some new customers out of the deal if airliner made an emergency landing in The U.P. afterwards!

<I always have your back and will keep trying to drum up business for ya, Gary ;) >

If we all just band to gether and vote for Ron Paul who wants to dismantle the TSA then airline travel would probably double overnight... I would say that I don't care because its great for GA but the problem is they are in direct violation of our civil rights and it WILL no doubt spread if we don't fight it.
