Well, I finally decided to see what the big deal was about. There’s 2 minutes of wasted time.I haven't even tried,
I understand why it was imposed, but let’s get real. It was a devastating incident, but it involved an extremely low percentage of foreign students. And it basically puts the CFI in the position of being responsible for a duty under the Department of Homeland Security. Perhaps a better way would be that prospective foreign students go through DHS for vetting, and CFIs can easily access the database to verify approval.I got setup not long after it was launched, but yes just another idiotic bureaucratic mandate. I'm not an actively working instructor anymore, but may do the occasionally FR or checkout with a friend. I don't market my services, I'm not taking on new students, and definitely not working with foreign students, why do I need this TSA madness?
Not only that, but anything a CFI is required to "see" can be forged (how many variations of a birth certificate have I seen???), and we don't exactly have the tools to stop anything meaningful, nor does it screen CFI's to see if some rogue CFI with sympathies against the state might do whatever anyway. The whole thing is a joke of security theater.I understand why it was imposed, but let’s get real. It was a devastating incident, but it involved an extremely low percentage of foreign students. I remember when it all started, the owner of one of the flight schools I was associated with pointed out the silliness of CFIs deciding whether a passport or birth certificate was real or fake.I understand why it was imposed, but let’s get real.
