Things come in threes, I wonder what the third will be? Also, will the CO get relieved again? Granted, losing a plane out of the hangar isn't the same as hitting another ship. edited (fat typing fingers and spell check fail). Good thing I didn't refer to the hanger deck :)

F-18 shot down by a cruiser in the battle group, collision with another ship, F-18 overboard. There’s your three.

Should be an interesting report on what happened.

I lost ( think that’s the right version of the word) an AH-64 that hade to be crained off the ship due to maneuvering prior to securing the rotor blades. Tarawa class ships were fast ships and were able to sprint what seemed like over 30kts when needed. Wind over the deck and a flank speed change of course had a rotor blade flex to the vertical and snap most of the straps that retained the blade…I can see why maneuvering under fire could dump an aircraft off the elevator. If that’s confusing I am the Army guy with more sea time then some I know in the Navy…

I guess that means the Carl Vinson is now in the "hot seat" for the next three (I hope not).

“Above the water line on its right back end”

and this from a reporter that covers the Pentagon as a regular beat?

How about "right rear quarter"? "Right back" sounds like it was written by a GenZer who could scarcely break free of txt-speak ("BRB").
You have likely accurately described the author. Or perhaps the person who helped program the underlying architecture of the "author".

Was the ship in that picture the Kittyhawk?

While loosing one overboard is terrible, it could be worse.

Lose. Loose.

They're two different words.

Third person present: loses.

Adjective: Losing.
Adjective: I lost weight, my pants are too loose.

Eats shoots and leaves. Depending where you put the punctuation changes the meaning.

"Let's eat, grandma."
"Let's eat grandma."

Proper punctuation saves lives.

I thought it was very funny also!! I don’t believe that the USN has any defensive resources to stop a Giant Cat Attack.
Big can of tuna? Or even just the big tuna?

Truman lost another...
Jeez. Three jets and a collision in... Less than a year, right? That's when you send in another carrier, bring 'em home, and put 'em all through training again! :o Seems like maybe a cultural problem?

(Note: I don't know much about what's going on but seriously. Wow.)

Yes and no.

The ship was struggling somewhat compared to other CVNs, but the CO that bore a lot of that responsibility was fired after the collision. The guy currently in the seat is an AMAZING leader and if anyone can turn the ship around, it's Chowdah. They pulled him (and his Navigator) from IKE after their very successful deployment to fill the void when Snowden and his Navigator were axed. I'd be very surprised (and PO'd) if he doesn't make Flag. He's a good dude.

What happened yesterday (failed arresting wire) is not entirely uncommon and unless they can determine that ship's crew blew off maintenance, then I expect no issues.

One thing is for sure, that crew is getting really well versed in JAGMAN investigations with this being at least the 4th Class A mishap on that deployment. I really hope this Houthi deal that was announced yesterday provides an opportunity to finally bring them home.
