I was planning to attend this year (Sept. 8-10), but in the fine print it says only active members of aviation organizations (AOPA, EAA, FAA, etc.) can attend. Doubt I'd have time to get a membership card from EAA before next Saturday. I could go as someone's guest, I suppose.

    Anyone else planning to attend?

I'm hoping to but don't have any firm plans. Yeah, I know it's only a week out.

I flew up last year and had a great time except it was SOOO hot. At least the education center is air conditioned. If the weather cooperates I would like to go again this year. Triple Tree is a very neat place.

I want to go, but it looks like I'll be on a close tether due to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Kind of funny story about folks flying into Triple Tree. Last year my wife and I were headed from LZU to JQF and I was on flight following and with Greer Approach. A pilot called up and started asking about the frequency for Triple Tree and other questions. I laughed a bit and explained to my wife that there was a NOTAM with all of that information on it that he should have read before he even took off.

Not 10 minutes went by when lo and behold another pilot called Greer Approach and asked basically the same thing. Funny thing is that it was my EAA Chapter VP, a pilot that should know better, but yet it didn't surprise me.

Is there an official NOTAM? I printed a 10 page 'Pilot Information' document from the TT website tonight that had information like a NOTAM. It contained all of the essential information for flying in and out.

I really hoped to get up there this year, but it just didn't work out. Oh well, maybe next year.

Looks pretty good to me. Thanks. I'm planning on attending next year. Should have an EAA membership card by then. I'll probably take my antique Luscombe to the regional AAA gathering at KCDN next month, if she passes her annual inspection.

They didn't ask me for any membership cards though I had them with me. I think that might have been just for those who chose to drive in. :dunno:

And here is proof that even folks involved in aviation don't know how to spell a common aviation word.

I guess I need to stop my media bashing.

Knowing my luck, I'd be the one carded! I had hoped to check out the Sonex contingent, as I'm keen on trying one.

I didn't go but the whole EAA thing is to keep the non aviation folks away to keep it more for pilots and less for spectators.

When I registered today they did not ask for any EAA or AOPA membership verification. I don't remember them doing it last year either.

I flew up this morning at 3500' and it was fairly smooth but with a strong headwind. The winds were 10 gusting to 17 when landing. When I returned home I flew at 4500' and it was like riding a bucking bronco. At least I had a little tail wind. It was much cooler this year and very enjoyable. I was able to meet up with a lot of my friends from EAA Chapter 172 for lunch. Up at the maintenance hangar (not hanger), Steve Sennett from DynaVibe was showing how they perform prop balancing. I really want to get this done on my airplane. The attendance seemed down a good bit this year. Not too surprising considering so many people are preping for hurricane Irma. There also seemed to be a lot more activity than usual on Augusta (KAGS) ATC when I called up for flight following. I imagine a lot of people are still flying their planes out of Florida. All-in-all it was a fun day and I look forward to next year.

Looking back over my wing when departing. I mostly shot video and don't have many stills.

Sorry for the multiple posts but I'm on my iPhone and don't know how to post multiple pics in same post from it.
