Hello,

I am a pilot who has their commercial ASEL and AMEL. I have been reflecting on my flight training thus far, and it has been a struggle. I have been feeling lately that I shouldn’t have persevered like I did. That I should have taken the hint that I was not built for this.

I was hoping to see if there have been other successful pilots who felt the same at this stage? I look back on taking 95 hours for my private, 35 to solo, a really rough commercial checkride, 20 hours to get my multi add-on. I stuck with it, but part of me thinks I should have cut my losses a long time ago.

I would love to have a job as a pilot, which I why I stuck with it, but also realistic about my evident shortcomings throughout my training.

not the easiest type of thing to talk about in real life, so looking for some input on here. Thank you!

What do you think was the cause of your struggle? Is it behind you or do you think you will struggle more in the future?

Are the struggles with the new things you learn, or with the things you've already learned?

You struggled with the commercial test. Do you still struggle with the commercial maneuvers?

Do you have a 1st class medical at this time?

How old are you.??

I started in my 30s and took a little longer than the youngsters. Studying can be harder for some of the older folk.

Your time to milestones sound typical enough for part 62 schools. How long has it been in calendar terms?

For sure, I am 85, still a student pilot. I own my C172 bought in 2019.
275 hours of total flight time, over 200 in my 172.
I have 3 hours of IFR training yet and will be ready for Check ride.
Been wanting to do this since 1945 when Dad had a J5.
