Last night was a beautiful evening to fly, I took off about 10 minutes before sunset and it was amazing. Smooth, calm air and watching those city lights coming on over the city and watching the sun go down is amazing. It's just like medicine, there is definitely nothing else like it. Just thought I would share.

Glad you enjoyed it,night flights are great as long as your comfortable with flying in the dark.

I flew last night as well. It was beautiful! I love flying at night. The majority of my Army time is night so I think the comfort level comes from that.

I rarely fly in the evening, but you are so right.. That is absolutely the most beautiful times I have been flying. Especially if you get to see the sun setting first.

agreed, and I need to do it more often. fly in the evening, that is.

Night flying is great! I actually don't do much of it, but it's some of my favorite flying. Glad you had a nice flight!

well he didn't say night flying, he said evening flying.

A clear, calm evening flight us wonderful. Watching the sunset from a few thousand feet can be magical. The lights down below, the stars above, the welcoming lights when you return to the airport.

Wonderful!

Rumor has it, I know this guy who has a Mooney. I keep wanting to fly in said Mooney and a night flight would be perfect. You know that guy?

Hey, Mike!

Still got any in school here?? I'm up for a dinner run over Pville way. On the other hand, Eufala has a Friday night buffet that sounds good, but tomorrow's weather sucks. Coming to the A Game?

Flying at night is indeed something else.

My wife an I flew a weeks ago around Detroit, it was the most peaceful, stunning experience. On top of that, the controller even allowed us to do patternwork on runway 3R, at KDTW: https://youtu.be/4C_ID-2u5AE

Hank, the kid has a baseball game that morning so I can't make the football game, I am going to try to make it over for the baseball game though. Not sure if that would make a good day to fly though cause I'll have the wife and kid with me.

Yeah wasn't dark night at the time, I flew right at sunset, so I got to enjoy a great sunset and watch the city lights turn on below in calm smooth air, with just a couple more minutes of daylight when I landed, nothing else like it! Thanks for all the replies

Sunset flights are amazing, especially over the island chain off the coast of Texas.

I took this picture last night. We had a scattered layer of scud rolling in at about 900 feet, and the sun was setting right on top of them. It was gorgeous.
