The 5th of November

I see no reason the 5th of November should ever be forgot

Reminds me of one guy down here, when he learned I was Canadian, he asked "Do you have a fourth of July up there?" and my answer "Yep, immediately after the third and right before the fifth"

Well, the Edmund Fitzgerald went down on November 10...

Hmmm... It's exactly 6 months after Cinco de Mayo?

Guy Fawkes Day! Or Bonfire Day! When I lived in the UK, we had Bonfire night on the 5th. It was fun.
It's also my mother's birthday, so of course I never forget.

Are you sure its really the 5th of November and not some other day? Alcohol haze?

David

Today, I voted for my wife for school board.

Question of the day from one of the poll workers - "isn't your mother running?" hahahahahahaha

Did she win????:dunno:
She's not doing great, but only the absentee ballots are counted. There are six people running for 3 seats, and she's narrowly 5th. There were 2 appointed "incumbents" (for folks who resigned), a 3rd who is pretty well known lawyer / business owner around town (once you get to know him you realize he probably isn't the best choice, but who gets to know their school board candidates?) and a guy who is attempting to win a seat for the 2nd time and has been campaigning for years.

The fact that she did so well in absentee voting is kind of a surprise.

Two more seated board members are resigning in the first six months of the next term, so the funny thing is she could end up appointed anyway.

The real reason 5 November is important:

Most users ever online was 4,494, November 5th, 2012 at 09:53 AM.

This is so true...happened to me when I lived in Winnipeg.

Colorado voted down a new school tax that would have been a large State increase and the first State tax that was progressive by a large margin, and voted in pot taxes by a large margin. It looks like the 11 counties with the secession measure on the ballot are voting it down but not by a large margin. Surprisingly close. But we won't be pursuing having a 51st State.

I'm not sure if you both are joking, or have a shaky memory of history. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

You took the suckabaitz.

You took the suckabaitz.

Apparently so.
However, just watch Jaywalking to reaffirm my total disbelief in others' knowledge of history.

Scott,

Did you ever figure it out?

is it still the 5th of November?

LOL, I'm a font of useless pop-culture trivia! Capt. is right on the money with the Animal House clip.

It's funny; the other day I was reading a comment thread where one poster signaled his leaving by saying, "Later. I have to go make a mashed potato mountain." and I thought, Gee, I wonder what people think about that post if they don't get the movie reference (Close Encounters...). I guess I know now. :)
