Terrorized by a phone book

Well, duh! No one of elementary school age has ever seen one before!

I keep saying, school teachers and administrators are some the dumbest idiots around.

It's not so much that they're dumb as that they tend to be Liberals, which means that they're collectivists, which means that everything gets done by committee. The fact that most of them also happen to be government workers means that, additionally, everything is done in such a way as to guarantee that no one can ever be held accountable.

Well, that's a piece of it but that's not the underlying root cause.

At some point along the line, we as a society stopped believing that accidents happen. There are no longer accidents, there's negligence, there's liability, there's blame.

The fact is that human beings make mistakes, no group of school officials no matter how smart or well-meaning will ever be able to prevent every possible harm that might befall a child under their care. So the schools create policies. Zero tolerance- every sharp corner is padded every possibly harmful activity, object, or word is removed. Every single thing is treated as a potential threat because if it isn't and someone gets hurt, the school will be held accountable and sued. After all, it's someone's fault, accidents don't "just happen" and god forbid we ever forgive a mistake.

So, schools get shut down for suspicious phone books, kids gets suspended for drawing pictures of guns, everything is locked down like a prison. Oh and god forbid we make someone uncomfortable because they're different somehow. That's a travesty now too.

A guy who worked for me in England left his briefcase in front of the order counter of the burger bar on a military base. This was during the 80's and real terrorism was happening with frightening frequency in the country we were in.

The restaurant followed procedure and notified base police, evacuated the building and called in the EOD bomb squad. He watched as the guy in the big suit carried out his briefcase and in an even dumber move screamed out "HEY THAT'S MINE!"

He was promptly placed into custody, questioned for many hours and released at 3am to his boss (me) who had to pick his sorry, stupid ass up and then explain to my higher ups how I was going to train the stupid out of him!

Terrorized by fear of absolutely f'in' nothin' caused by a government encouraging people to see a boogie man everywhere . . . . wtf would these people do if there actually was danger somewhere?

I don't buy into that, at all. I really do believe these people are dumb as a bag of rocks, which is why they run to work in education, instead of getting a real productive job. There used ot be a tradition of people that sacrificed good paying careers for the joy of educating. Now we have spoiled, lazy, dumb as pet rock, union lazy types, demanding better pay, benefits and retirements, all the time.

That story was good right up until the custody part. The bad guys don't walk up and ask for their briefcase back. Sounds like an "opportunity to excel" and train the stupid out of the responders, was missed.

Yeah, but they didn't stand at the scene and say, "hey that's my truck!" before the bomb went off and ask for it back.

Two completely different scenarios.

Yeah they did. The guy who rented the Ryder truck that blew up the WTC the first time went back for his deposit.

Truck. Truck truck truck. Not the deposit. Read again. They did not go back for the truck (the weapon) at the scene of the bombing... Which is what the guy with the briefcase was doing.

"Can I have my bomb back please?"

There was one the other day for finding a jar of strange fluorescent gunk. Turned out to be the upper portion of a lava lamp. Damned kids, doesn't anybody remember these things....
