Tan-Tar-A, a resort that, until recently, has been a wonderful destination on The Lake of The Ozarks in Central Missouri for over 50 years, is being converted into a Margaritaville!
Tan-Tar-A was formerly a great destination for a weekend get-away and golf outing or just a quick Sunday brunch. You'd fly into Grand Glaize Airport (K15), call the bell stand, and they'd come get you in one of their vans. More often than not, they were there before you had your plane tied down.
Until recently it was owned by Marriott*. The rooms were wonderful, the golf courses too, and the Sunday Brunch was out of this world: Made to order omelets, wonderful eggs Benedict, and hand cut prime rib, hams & pork tenderloin. Crab legs, shrimp, etc. Breakfast, lunch or dinner...better yet, just have all three!
But then, a few years ago, it was bought out by an independent hotelier...
...and it went to sh*t!! We flew up there two summers ago for Sunday brunch and it was an effing slop fest. Nasty crap like you'd expect to see at local dive diner during the after church hog-feed on Sunday (i.e the Lambert's atmosphere). There was food smeared all over the buffet bars and dropped on the floors. More importantly, NO ONE was tending to it, and/or making an attempt to even try to keep it clean. Did I mention it was freakin' nasty?!?!
(No, we didn't have to wade thru mashed potatoes on the floor, but it wasn't far from it).
But maybe there's hope!
I just saw on the news that it has reopened as a Margaritaville. (Old news, apparently they bought it last year and the renovation began then). Anyone familiar with any of the existing facilities themed as such? Are they nice?

*okay, before the pedants here jump all over this (and we definitely have more than our share of pedants who love pointing out every minutiae of error), it likely wasn't OWNED BY Marriot, rather simply BRANDED a Marriott with all the quality control measures that come with that branding.
