Hello!!

I just came to the US some months ago to do my training in Florida and I've been looking for airshows in the area of Orlando and I heart about Sun 'n Fun in Lakeland. I haven't found too much information about it so if somebody could tell me what is it about and when is it done I would appreciate it. Or even if you guys know another airshow in Florida...

Thank you!! :)

The light sport expo,is held in January at Sebring.

Warbirds in Tico right before Sun N Fun, if they still have that.

I went to that for a few years while I lived down there... GREAT airshow...

It lost alot of luster after Harry Doan was killed..

Also at US military bases annual open houses are held. The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds perform all over the place and not just at military bases. Google them for their schedule. Usually one of these teams performs at Sun N Fun also.

Sun-N-Fun is great, especially if you are a Florida based pilot with easy access its a must go. This next year will be my 7th year in a row flying into. Friday and Saturday are the best days, nice plane expo's where manufacturers bring out their stuff, plus I think everyone can agree some of the best parts of sun-n-fun is just walking around the flight lines seeing peoples planes and meeting the other fellow pilots. Theres also an airshow which is great and has military and civilian performers. Definitely a must do in my opinion, and flying in is a whole exciting thing in itself! here are some links of my flights into Sun-N-Fun so you can see the arrival procedures! Landing on a taxiway!

Met Bob Hoover there (SunNFun) years ago in a booth selling his book and autographing it for buyers. Nice guy who would talk with you a bit. I told him last I saw him was at Reading Airshow flying his yellow Mustang in '76,'77. He said something like wow, that was awhile ago. Also have seen him a few times in the Commander. Hell of a performer, and a great book BTW!

Right on the centerline! Nice videos! I definitely must go there! thanks for the info! Have great flights!

Do they allow us to fly in for the event or is this a "drive to" air show?
Yes, i checked their online info and did not find an answer.

Yes you can fly in, or drive. Or walk. Whatever. :D

edit: are you referring to Tico? If so I'm sure you can fly in, just check the NOTAMs for when the airspace is closed as they may be practicing etc, or call the tower.

i never use the centerline landing there. they are landing multiple aircraft on the runway at once. there will be someone in front of you rolling out and someone landing behind you as you roll out. I land on the hot side (right side in the videos case), and then go to the cold side (left side) when slowed down. this gives me room if I screw up or the guy in front of me screws up and gives the guy behind me room if either of us screw up.

van's lost a aircraft at airventure a few years ago when someone landed hot and long and ran into the back of it.

this is true if you are landing on the runways, on the taxiway they do not land side by side, theres not even enough space to fit two aircraft side by side on those taxiways anyway.

they never land side by side unless it is and approved formation landing. but even on the taxiway they land the next aircraft before you are clear of the runway. i have seen 4 or so on the runway at times. If landing are hot side and taxiing are cold side it still gives a lot more room if two are about to come together. I would much rather see someones wing go over the top of mine than get hit from behind.

can't say i've ever even heard the term or use of hot side vs not hot side in my 10 years of flying.

they land two at a time on the taxi way, on the orange and on the green dot, if someone landed so far down the runway they were on your dot at the same time as you there was a large gap in situational awareness on their behalf and the controllers, and being the 15 feet to the side of the centerline i don't think would help in that instance! there simply isn't enough room to have two airplanes even with mains at both edges wings would still hit, so if someone happens to be at the same altitude at the same position down the taxiway as you a collision would not be avoidable.

thats just my opinion of course
