If descending via a STAR and ATC tells you to maintain 250kts until advised, then shortly after gives you “resume published speeds at xyz fix” would you maintain the 250kts until crossing the fix or would you want to be at the published speed for the fix by the time you cross it? Thanks

"Resume published speeds at XYZ" means to be at the speed published for XYZ at XYZ.

If they wanted you to maintain 250 until after, the instruction would be "250 knots to XYZ, then published speeds"

They 100% want you at the published speed at XYZ. Depending on the magnitude of difference between 250 and that published speed, they honestly probably wouldn't notice, but if you want to be technically accurate, that's what they are asking here. While adherence to ATC instruction is important, what they are doing with you in this scenario is trying to manage spacing, either between you and your interval to the field, or folks following you. A couple extra knots between friends isn't gonna end the world, but they're trying to set you up for success. If they wanted 220 at XYZ and you gave them 250, they might yell at you, but they also might just give you a longer spacing vector off the last arrival fix too and not waste their breath. My VNAV is +10/-15 so it is not at all uncommon to be a little off, probably by as much speed differential as your question involves. Nobody says anything about that kinda thing ever.

Like the others, I would manage to “resume published speeds at xyz fix.” IOW, meet the speed published speed for that fix.

In case if doubt, easy enough to clarify.

Yeah, you don’t really need to ask questions. Get it done in the readback. Blah blah blah crossing xyz at two fifty

Meet the published speed at that fix as others have said. But if that fix is in 15 miles, do your last assigned speed until you absolutely need to decelerate to hit the speed at that fix. Typically 1nm per 10 knots to lose. Add a little bit for a tailwind.

I see too many people slow prematurely and then wonder why atc gets frustrated.
