I searched and couldn't see any posts about this, so if I missed it I apologize now. After having lost my medical to a cancer battle 10 years ago, I was looking into getting my 3rd class to exercise my private pilot privileges. I waited both for money and I was told after 10 years I would not need a special issuance. Before I got around to that last year I had a heart attack with some stents placed, now I am reaching out to this group to find any advice about getting a special issuance 3rd class. How much of a process is it? How bad are the feds to work with?

Recruit an AME or AOPA to advise you of what the FAA requires and provide exactly that. No more, no less. In my experience the worrying about it was way worse than the process.

CAD:
Op note
Pre op cath report
Discharge summary. Be careful, sometimes the resultant coronary anatomy might NOT meet standards, if so, STOP.

More than 90 days after the stents:
Stress treadmill, get the tracings (good dupl. originals). Can’t tell U Rate requirement as I don’t know your age.
Fasting glucose + lipid profile
Cardiology office visit

Flight physical, deferred.
And then you wait.....
