The thread on the KX-155 reminded me, I have a question about my Narco.

I have two Nav/Comms, a KX-155 and a Narco MK 12D TSO. The King is in good working order.

The Narco not so much. The display is a bit wonky and the nav (ID-825) head no longer functions. I've had the nav head marked IN OP for years. Which brings me to my question. Is there an easy way to determine if the issue is the nav head or the radio?

I've pulled the radio and cleaned the connectors. No joy.

Borrow a known good MK12D and slide it in. Alternatively, slide out your suspect MK12D and temporarily slide it into a known good working installation.

But the bigger question is, what will you do once you isolate the fault? It is a Narco, after all.

The 12D was wonky even when it was still supported by Narco. Our club had a plane with two 12D+'s in it. On paper they seemed real nice, but they were so unreliable that the plane was AOG a lot until we sold it (the club was based at IAD so we really needed the radios to work).

I'd still start by swapping in a known-good unit and seeing whether the indicator comes back to life.
