This is a crazy story. Someone apparently "steals" this guys plane on a regular basis and has even replaced the battery and added a headset! I think I'd change the locks for starters or maybe leave a list of upgrades for the "thief" to install in his plane!

It sounds like someone is confused as to the ownership of that airplane. The thief is treating it as her own. Maybe some crook "sold" it to her.

As I read the story, I'm annoyed at the apparent sloppiness from law enforcement lack of leads... Fingerprints, DNA, camera at access/exit points, historical cell site data. There is so much information that can be gathered to lead to suspects.

It's time to put a surveillance camera on that airplane and alert on the tail number.

Or change the locks/ignition.

I’m betting this another person that doesn’t have a pilots license. Put some type of anti-theft device on it and call it a day.

Install a very loud horn under the pilot seat. Hook it to the master switch so when the master is on, the horn honks.

When said thief collapses from a heart attack, remove body and problem solved...

Sitting here thinking, is it possible some unscrupulous person ''sold'' the airplane to the person flying it, and the new ''owner'' may be wondering who stole the battery...

Like how the gas is being paid for...credit card or cash. And did a local mechanic install a new battery or recently sell a battery.??

Or maybe someone who saw this airplane that had been “abandoned” and needed to build time.

“Crap…some criminal stole the battery! Well, replacing that is cheaper than buying or renting a whole airplane, so…”

As I was reading the article I figured it was going to spin back around to the actual owner flying it, then forgetting where he parked it....and forgetting that he even went for a flight

This fake sale idea or even a fake “sure you can use it” seems possible these days.

If someone thought they “bought “ the plane I would think there would be paperwork renting the tie down, etc. Either way, the most basic police work should find the perpetrator. But, it makes for a good internet story.

Whoever is near to where this story takes place, please do keep us informed.

This leaves me thinking about the time that a bank shut down internet access to my mortgage account for some inane excuse regarding “cyber-security”.

I went into the branch office to get it fixed. The service rep gave me a long, scripted response about “protecting my account”. My response was simple - I told her that I didn’t want ANY “security” on any loan account of any sort, because I would welcome anyone else who wants to log on and make payments. It shut her down cold.

Back in the day one would lease an airplane or fast boat. When Angel dumped it owner would go and reclaim it.
They put a truth in leasing law in to stop it.

I can’t see where the thief ever “returned” the plane… seems it always just gets found somewhere not too far away.

I once moved into an apartment and called to change the utility service into my name. They said I had to come into their office because they had some conflicting information on my account. I went in and it turned out that some woman had an account under my SSN. They got it sorted out, but said the following words to me: “If it makes you feel better, she has really good credit.”

I haven’t seen the movie Landman. Is it worth watching? That one clip shown above is rather entertaining, though I doubt the culprit of this mystery is as feared as the drug runners. Or, is that clip AI’d to fit this situation?

I rather liked the mini-series (10 episodes) and in particular liked Billy Bob Thornton's no-nonsense character. (Clip was not modified.)

Love it! Back when my wife was in her 20s she got a call from a bank in upstate NY. Someone was trying to get a loan and nothing seemed right about it to the bank guy, so he did a credit search on the SS# and found her phone number and called. That could have really messed up her credit had the loan gone through and have certainly not been repaid.

I would put one of these on the plane. GPSANDTRACK
I have them on my cars & trucks. Sends you a text whenever it leaves home.

I once received a check from Blue Cross/Blue Shield for a medical procedure that I did not have done. After some investigation, I learned the check was intended for a high school classmate who had a social security number one digit different from mine. He'd been trying to get it corrected with BC/BS without success. I just cashed the check and mailed him a personal check for the amount.
