No more $ per year fee?

Is this the 3D experience cloud stuff that everyone hated?

I think it's always been free but definitely for the last 18 months or so. From the EAA forums, Solid Edge sub-forum back in Aug 2023:
"2. After the SOLIDWORKS debacle, I'm a little gun-shy. Will Siemens want to put their hand in my pocket a couple of years from now, once I've invested time in learning their software and drawing my projects?
That's a great question. The license you receive when you download SolidEdge is valid for 3 years. After that time, you will be asked to "renew" the program, but Siemens has stated that this will be at no cost. This means that you can continue using SolidEdge indefinitely, as long as you renew your license every 3 years."

The "3D experience" (aka CAD Software) that apparently everyone hated was EAA's offering of Solid Works, not Solid Edge. I've not used either so have no opinion good or bad.

Solidworks seems to be out and solid edge is in? I paid the $25(or whatever it was) for Solidworks 3D experience and it's been ok except for the need to be online all the time.

I'll give solid edge a try since it's free.

For what is worth... My son who is a whiz with SolidWorks, recently downloaded and installed the $25 edition from EAA and said, it is actually newer than the SolidWorks he uses at work.

Wait, the EAA offer is back to a fee license? o_O

Nauga,
and his Fusion drive

Does this version of solid edge offer Cam capabilities to include tool changers?

My subscription to fusion 360 is expiring later this month

For the EAA offering you get whatever the 'makers' edition is. I haven't done much other than a few simple parts for around the house.

You can use Solidedge offline and also save locally.. I've used it on a T480s and while not as snappy as my G14 at home its very usable for the small parts I need.

As far as CAM I've exported stl files into Orca slicer adn Chitlubox with zero issues. So you can definately generate good g-code for the files you export.

As far as any EAA benefit there is absolutely no benefit. EAA is offering the same software you can get for free.

And the makers edition of Solidworks only $48

Again, EAA provides a big bag of nothing.
