Soaring forum

Rec.aviation.soaring is the main "forum" used by US pilots. It is not PoA equivalent though. It's Usenet, no photos, very antique interface, etc. But somehow it persists.

It persists because that is the era most of those guys are from in my experience. My local club is 70-80 year old eccentric professional types who have a huge passion for gliding.

Thanks all. I am seeking information on soaring in the Alps during a planned trip to Italy. I saw some YouTube videos and was entranced. I am pretty sure the Daughter would love it also. Looking for more than the 20 min tourist ride.

St Auban in southern France has an excellent reputation in the soaring community. You can get package for flying dual with a local instructor.

My coworker has contacts in Switzerland if you want to go further north. He also gave me this link but does not have any personal contacts there.

My wife soared there a few years ago at an international meet of women glider pilots. They didn't get weather that supported flights well into the mountains but she had a great time and the scenery was amazing
