Simplified explanations for passengers

Lol ... this makes me want to take someone up while I have on the first page on my kneeboard the phrase "Yoke back = cows get smaller; yoke forward = cows get bigger" in big Sharpie handwriting.
Yoke back = cows get smaller, then bigger.

You’ll see me using this checklist. It isn’t directions on how to fly the plane...
I learned this the hard way shortly after I got my PPL back in the day. My best friend, blissfully unaware of his peril, had agreed to be my first post-checkride passenger (in the time-honoured manner of all pilots who gleefully launch into the sky with their most precious friends and family at the minimum level of qualification and experience). He watched me do a careful exterior preflight and we got into the cockpit, after which I pulled out the checklist to review and then work my way through the engine start. Glancing over to bask in what I was sure would be frank admiration at my aviating excellence, I saw instead a look of profound horror on his face. "You still need to read the instructions on how to fly?" he asked. "I needed to read them eventually, I guess" I replied and hit the starter.

His revenge was confessing a fear of heights when we were 100ft AGL on the climb-out. I've never been on such a hair trigger to deliver a right-hand jab to the chin.

Good times!
