Silly things heard on the radio to/from Oshkosh

In theory too one should listen to 121.5 briefly before shutdown to make sure your own ELT isn't transmitting. There have been cases where people had a hard landing such that the aircraft was OK but they triggered the ELT and then shut down and walked away from an aircraft emitting distress signals.

yep. Funny how a hard landing will trigger one but frequently a crash will not. Well designed little buggers aren't they?

I once heard Chewbaca, followed by a curt "Cherwbaca on guard!"

I also heard someone in a twin say that they'd run out of gas and were going to land in a field.

I've started hearing pilot explicitly state their on guard when asking for the nearest controller to avoid the nazis.

I heard one show down that ended with ATC stepping in and yelling at the nazi. The nazi was yelling at a guy trying to figure out what sector freq he needed after a botched handoff. The nazi told the guy that he needed to get a "f***ing AF/D" and to get off guard.

So that's what people mean by "Guard Nazi."

Previously, the Nazi reference always seemed like an exaggeration to me, because I'd never heard people be so overbearing about it.

I would have loved to hear what ATC said to the guy.

A couple of years ago I listened to a guy in formation with the wrong plane. He literally picked up the wrong plane on departure and joined it in a loose formation for over 30 mins before he realize his mistake. I was laughing out loud, it sounded like a comedy routine, and probably was.
