Signature waives fees...

Here' how ridiculous it is.
I'm going to TUS (on SWA) Wednesday early AM.
Signature is $44 parking per day. Handling is $77, wiaved with 30 gallons at $7.45 (I just bought 80 gallons for 4.80 yesterday).
City landing is $7.50.

So the waiver saves me $77, I still pay $176 for four nights on the ramp.

Over at Odyssey, it's $30 per night and a 20 gallon fill. City landing is $7.50.

I think Signature is rather pathetic.

here's a nice one

moore county (ksop) will charge you $70 an hour for each hour past their closing time you want to access your airplane. They won't give you a code. They can't just pay a kid 15 bucks to come let you in the gate. I hopped the fence. Don't tell anyone

I only came 2 hours past their closing time. The airport is public and its actually out in the country where land is cheap. Its no different than any of the other north carolina county airports - built by the state because someone decided every county in NC should have an airport (smart guy :) )

What makes it special is that it is near pinehurst, a ritzy golf community. So there is a nice FBO run by the county that is meant to cater to the corporate jet owners.

I say let em cater to the corporate jet owners. They can make their money off the exorbitant landing, tiedown, and fuel they already provide for the jets. Why I have to pay hundreds of dollars for 10PM access to my 152 after a family cookout I do not understand.

Another good small stop with great service is McNab (?) Alabama. Pretty central, single runway with good length and favorable terrain. Little old shack type terminal/FBO which is City owned. One guy runs it. Tells you, "Y'all come in any time, we're open 24hrs. If I'm not here just call at any time and I'll be here in 5 minutes." Had good fuel prices and quick and easy in and out. Lies right along the route between Atlanta and Corona Ca.

:o) Wouldn't one need more than one refueling stop "along the route between Atlanta and Corona Ca." :o)

I was knee deep in retarded problems at work today and missed all the fun in this thread.

I didn't explain that it was Twombly the Younger who posted that link I started the thread with to Twitter, as if AOPA was super-excited about this one-month offer from Signature.

I hadn't had a chance yet to express my disdain for our giant pilot's association who only apparently has enough clout to negotiate a single month of reasonable ramp rates.

Perhaps I shouldn't get started on how impotent they are for such a huge organization... that'll only get my blood pressure up. :(

AOPA could only negotiate one month, huh. Join Colorado Pilots. At Jet Center at APA, fuel is $1.00 off M-F out of the truck, and 55 cents on Sat & Sun out of the truck. Gotta have your CPA card with you tho. Unfortunately, TacAir self-serve is still cheaper. But it's the thought that counts, right?

All the FBOs are supposed to charge the $10 airport fee, but if you're flying for lunch or dinner, or dropping the airplane off at one of the shops, or ask TacAir nicely, no additional charge.

Only time I go to Signature at APA is for the EAA B-17 when I fly Young Eagles. Even then, fuel at TacAir or JetCenter.

I thought it was great that CPA did this. There are days you just don't want to jack around with self-serve. Haven't used it yet, but winter is coming! ;)

Self-serve at KFTG is still cheaper but unless it just happens to be on the way somewhere, not enough to make a special trip. Anytime I'm over there I top off the bird, though.

TacAir has been running some weekend specials where they claim their truck price is the same as the self-serve but the sneak a flat service fee onto the final bill. Oh well, gotta pay the line boys somehow. TacAir also has done system-wide OSH discounts the last few years. I doubt Signature even knows what Oshkosh is. ;)

Didn't even know that fee existed. Never heard of anyone getting charged it, must be waived often.

Yup. Never go there. Too many businesses on the field that actually appreciate the business.

We recently went through the motions of transporting 100 gallons of MoGas to our bird. We saved $100. Ha.

Was not worth it, but it was a fun exercise. If we figured up the man-hours to go get it (only two places in town selling non-ethanol) and haul it around, and put it in the bird, we were getting paid less than minimum wage for the time spent. ;)

What's needed is a beater pickup truck and 100 gallon bed tank. Even then, one trip to fill the 80 gallon Skylane isn't really worth it either.

A $1500 beater pickup truck and tank would take 15 fills to pay off, not including fuel, insurance, or maintenance on the truck. Or 115 hours of flight time at 13 GPH. Personal lost time not included.

Try Gilliam McConnell just up the street. It's a private strip but it's open to the public. The Pick n Pig on field has pretty good bbq as well.

love the pik-n-pig, going tomorrow for lunch.

I was going to be departing SOP at 10PM and I didn't think the mc-connell folks wanted people flying in at late hours.. plus I don't even know if that place has lights

I have yet to leave an FBO with a negative experience - Abilene Aero in (You guessed it) Abilene Texas has everything from 150s - King Airs on the ramp, I bought 14 gallons of gas and went home. A couple days later I got a handwritten letter thanking me for my business.

If I ever head back up that way, guess which FBO I will be using? (Heck, I'd even go out of the way a little bit to give them business)

Signature in Santa Barbara happily waived the fees if I bought 7 gallons of gas and they discount the fuel on the weekends. Really nice people, nice service; no complaints from me.
