Not only am I the lucky guy to be offered the special event fee of $980, but since we will be changing the clocks for daylight savings time, there’s an additional fee of $250. This is all in addition to their normal rates. They are insistent on this amazing opportunity and have requested that I reply all immediately with an upfront payment.

And I’m the lucky one who scored a factory tour with Piper so I’m planning to pop out in the morning to make it to their tour, and Signature has offered for me to pay all of the fees twice, but for a limited time offer, they will waive one of the $980 fees so I’ll just pay it once instead of twice. Time to buy a lottery ticket!!
 
Since Piper is at VRB airport and Signature, as far as I know, doesn’t have an FBO there, I’m at a loss as to how they impact a Piper factor tour. Is this a fuel stop issue? Home base issue?

I’m going to Miami first, staying the night, then flying to Vero Beach for the tour and coming back to Miami the same day for an extended stay.
 
Miami has several airports, thus many choices. Not sure why you feel signature is your only option.

What event is this for?
 
OK, I see. MIA is one of the most cost-unfriendly places a GA plane can go. If I were flying private I would avoid it at all costs.
 
At that price, you can fly first class, cattle dept.
 
For $980 once or even twice I can't imagine how it couldn't be more convenient to go into anywhere inside the mode C veil. Even if I have to be right next to MIA, I would still go as far as PMP and uber/rental car in. Although I don't understand the original post since Daylight savings already happened.

I called around and found other options, just a bit shocked. I wanted to ask Signature first because that’s the most convenient location. But will be opting for another airport this time.
 
My Signature story:
I was a working pilot, commuting to a job (pickup and relocate a plane 250mi).
I had someone commute me to the airlines from a small airport.
Arriving at the big airport, small airplane (C182) taxied into the non-movement six feet, for 20 seconds. I hopped out with my flight bag. Easily 500’ from the building and no where near any planes or people.
From here, the C182 taxied back onto the taxi way for takeoff & I walked towards the Signature line person. “Ok if I pass thru your building? It’s the only way off the ramp”.
“Sure!”
Passing thru the building, I hear reception frantically trying to get the N# from line staff, and heard “Who’s going to for that?!” over the radio.
We had a brief conversation about me being a pilot commuting to a job and this is the only way for me to get to work as I was walking by.
I proceeded thru and out the building without using any amenities.
I figured they’d mail a bill but they did not.
It’s such a scam.
It’s like the only way off the freeway is thru a gas station, you don’t need gas or anything they offer but the gas station can charge you because it’s the only way provided by the government to get off the highway.
 
I need a reasonable accommodation and POA interpreter please.

Asked the question around the fire at RR, and we figured out whoever was explaining it at the FBO did a bad job of doing so. $980 for the special event fee and they would have hit him for it twice, but the time change fee of $250 was in lieu of the second $980. Since he was leaving and coming back, they were charging $250 for "changing the time of the arrival" on the reservation. Like a late fee for missing a slot reservation.

"Yeah, we know you were originally here at 0900, but you left and came back, so now we have you missing your 0900 arrival, and are charging you $250 for arriving at 1500 instead of 0900. At least you weren't charged $980 twice."


How anyone can defend these clowns is beyond me.
