Which is the preferred?

BAS or ?

You know, that's an issue I've actually grappled with for some years. I cannot imagine anything that can more improve the safety of my aircraft. But the ones that I know are available are also quite uncomfortable. So I put off the decision yet another year.

I would only install one that had inertial reels. The hard point ones are so uncomfortable, I don't use them. If I'm crashing an airplane so hard that I need the shoulder straps, I probably don't want to survive my stupidity.

I had reels on a prior plane, put the buckle-ups on this one. Like them both, don't find the curreent set to be a problem, Happy to say neither system has been tested for adequacy--so far, anyway.

Have BAS, if I were to do over again I would have a crotch strap for the front seats. Seen too many front-seaters down by the pedals post-crash. Then again the crash may not have been survivable regardless.

I've never owned a plane without shoulder harnesses, even for passengers. :dunno:

They make these little fluffy things that go over them to protect your neck from chaffing. Mine have bears on them.... for my wife.

I've had both. Since trying the BAS, I wouldn't go back.

#1 Less chance of being ill adjusted at impact because of occupants forgetting to tighten fixed type harness.

#2 Ease of reaching for stuff.

(Personal) #3 fixed ones are a PITA for an amputee
