Seems to be more retracts on the market

When you compare modern fixed gear versus retract, that retract does not gain much with out piston powered planes.

Agree modern fixed gear are probably speedier than 70s era retracts. But they (cirrus, RV 10, diamonds, etc.) are a 3 times (or more) as expensive

That may be true. But most of us are comparing older retracts with older fixed gear. Retracts win as far as speed and fuel consumption.
 
My situation is that I’ll hit 70 in 10 years - not wanting to get a plane in 3- 5 years only to have to have to get rid of it after 5 years

I fully support your spending the inheritance. Sooner rather than later. :thumbsup: :biggrin:
 
I know several people who have thrown in the towel and decided to self insure. I have given it thought. The only significant reason that I have yet to do it, is thinking of protecting my assets for the kids in the event something were to happen.
