This took off while we were doing the run-up in the Bonanza amongst all the little 152s and 172.
It looks like some of the Migs I remember from when I was in high school. Mig 15? Mig 17? Polish built variation?

It took pretty much the whole runway (4005 ft) and I thought it might clip the trees, but when it finally lifted off, it practically went vertical.

This goes back years, but there used to be an airworthy Mig 15 based at Stuart Airport KSWF.

I've seen the one with Czech markings several times.

Randy Ball flies a 17 in the oshkosh night airshow. Pretty cool at night with that flickering afterburner and its long flame.

Besides the afterburner (which most MiG-17s had), an easy way to tell a 17 apart from a 15 is by the presence of a third wing fence on each wing.

As it took off, that afterburner (or what looked to me like an afterburner) and the long flame were very visible and impressive.

It was really cool watching it.
