Santa Barbara and VFR, fog, marine layer, etc.

There was one section where we got slammed in an updraft and then a down draft immediately next to each other - and my friend looked back and the dog was levitating about a foot off the floorboards.
Yes this past weekend was probably one of the heavier turbulence encounters through there. It was different than most turbulence I'm used to.. felt like there was a pattern to it, you could feel a slight uneasiness to the plane first for a moment (kind of like sliding on ice while skiing) followed by one of the wings dropping and then a few seconds of healthy moderate

Worst part was near the lee side of the mountain on the right turnout from 13L... once I made it to the center of the pass it was mostly light

I diverted at WJF on Thursday because of the windstorm (or whatever the hell was going on!), passing through on my way from a long XC. Standing lenticulars over big bear, and winds were 300@30G42 *on the surface* ... Needless to say I was getting beaten to hell. Shears, updrafts, downdrafts. Definitely Severe to me (and my PIREPs)... got on the ground and all the airliners were reporting the same up to the flight levels. Not fun and was happy to put it down. Great bonding with my plane that day! Was so glad to be flying it.

you could not have PAID me to go up in anything smaller than a King Air last Thursday -

KLAS reported a gust of 80 . . .

My in-laws are north, near Santa Maria. I'm always glad to get past Tehachapi with out significant turbulence. Santa Maria tower usually asks how bad it was.

I've got the best in-laws, they never cause turbulence.
