Hi!

I have a 50 x 50 feet hangar and I am getting tired of cleaning upp dust and gravel.
Does anybody use a robot vacuum and if so which one would you recommend?

I have looked at more industrial versions like Makita but they are quite hands on with manual battery swaps and expensive.
But I don't know enough about robo vacs to know if one can handle the space and the debris.

I have both I-Robot and Dyson robotic vacs at home. The I-Robot models have rubber sweeping rollers that will need frequent attention; the quality of the replacements have dropped in the last few years. The units also just decide to stop cycling and have to be reset periodically. I have owned the basic, and the self ‘dumping’ units that self empty the trash bin. They clean OK…better than nothing. I recently acquired a Dyson unit- seems to be a better build, stronger vacuum, more traditional brush roller that should last as long as a standard home vacuum and cleans better. I have had a software hiccup that required rebooting once in the several months I have owned it and, once I lifted the buffet it was getting wedged under (added a 3/16 felt pad under the feet) it has not gotten stuck ever. I can’t fully endorse the Dyson yet since the TIS is short but so far, it is a clear winner over the I-Robot for me. I am having the unit clean around 3500sqft of tile, wood, area rug, Berber carpet.

I have a Shark robot vacuum - picks up kitty litter that gets tracked out of the pan - so small gravel bits that get tracked in on shoes / tires shouldn't be an issue.
50x50 - it would probably do about 1/2, come back to recharge / empty then do the other half.
They can suck up things like charging cords.
Pet hair is an issue - it builds up on the beater and I have to remove it every time it runs (cat and golden retriever)

Electric leaf blower.
I used to use a leaf blower in my hangar until I realized I was blowing dust under the walls into my neighbors hangar. And it would make my hangar very dusty.
Now I use a dust mop and a shop vac. Sorry I don't have experience with something automated. I have too much stuff sitting on the floor it seems to be able to get a robot to do a decent job?

Exactly this. Got a Worx branded one (wife has lots of tools with this brand with the same battery). Just open the door slightly and blow things out.

I have a Roomba at home. It works but seems to get stuck frequently. It wouldn't work well at the hangar; too much stuff on the floor.

At the hangar, I just attach a blowgun to my compressor hose. Works pretty well.

I have the same problem...I seem to be going on a Roomba treasure hunt at least once a week. 'Where in the world is Roomba?'. So far, once a clearance issue was resolved with one piece of furniture, the Dyson has been great. I have had three models of the I-Robot Roomba and 4 units total. Currently, I have the Dyson cleaning all of my lower level except the master BR/bath (still an earlier model Roomba that is good to go).

I’d be concerned about the robot finding and igniting a fuel puddle under a leaky drain or something like that.

Oil drips certainly would be a concern, particularly with the rubber components on a Roomba and rubber drive wheels on all residential grade robotic vacs. Don't get me started on dog turds...

Thanks for all the feedback! Getting a Roomba or dirtdog has proven difficult and expensive here, even more so getting my wife involved…

There problem is large debris and the wear and tear the hangar environment entails.
The industrial robots are not particularly good overall, and the household ones are too delicate.

I ended up ordering a Dreame L40 Ultra AE since it was a very good price at 500 usd. The marketing states that’s it’s very good for “large debris “.

My thinking is that I will take care of the bigger chunks by hand and let the robot keep a good clean level after that.
