We've had many discussions of the advantages and disadvantages of aircraft certificated as "Experimental" but what about "Restricted?" I fly and maintain a towplane for gliders that retains its standard certification but I know some towplanes and agricultural aircraft are in the restricted category. Are there any maintenance advantages to the restricted category such as who can do maintenance, who can do inspections or how the aircraft can be altered?

Are there any maintenance advantages to the restricted category...
No. Restricted aircraft must still be maintained under 91.409.
how the aircraft can be altered?
In some cases yes. But that is more due to its "special purpose use" and the operating "restrictions" placed on the aircraft. 91.313 has more details.
