Example...

... the instructor said "Right Rudder!" all day long?

...when the plane was mushing in slow flight and the instructor wiggled the rudders to get the stall to break?

And the plane swapped ends and the windscreen filled full rotating ground.

... I looked north, towards home, and said "I think I can make it through there OK."

Then the big ground-strike lightning bolt hit ahead, and I decided, "This is how pilots end up in articles with titles like 'Aftermath'," and decided that little airport right under me looked like a REALLY nice place to spend the next three hours.

And yes, it was sunny the next day.

...I was riding with a newly-minted pilot friend, and a summer afternoon thunderstorm popped up and raced us into a small town airport? There was a weather office on the field, and we sheltered there until the storm passed. When we got back in the plane to fly home, my buddy overprimed and we had a flash of fire around the cowling, which nearly made us wee-wee in our britches. Yeah, I remember that flight all right.

... when 100LL was $1.99/gallon as a "show special" at Airventure?? I think that was the year Basler was trying to compete with the "new" FBO Orion, but it was a REALLY nice deal! :D

........when a dripping wet hand came up and gripped your shoulder, and you looked back into the eyes of the man whose family you and your crew just hoisted off a sinking sailboat.

.... when you stood in the doorway of the Saberliner during flight checks of the ILS at ISP?

taking the first flight in your own aircraft.

when you're tying the plane down with a huge grin on your face while the DPE is inside printing out your Temporary Airman Certificate.

... when as a child I dreamed of becoming a flight attendant, because I didn't think women could become pilots. Still, I knew I belonged up there, somewhere, somehow.

...when as a child, I dreamed of being a pilot, so I could get with the flight attendants...

SWA, pretty much. Cathay Pacific, not so much.

Thanks for your input. I can't speak for others, but I know my day isn't complete until I've heard at least one homophobic or misogynistic comment!

Hmm, according to Wikipedia, Misogyny is a hatred or dislike of women or girls. I didn't really read that, or homophobia in his post.

My post was a joke in reference to the SWA captain last year who was ranting to his FO about the FAs and broadcasting it to the world thanks to a stuck mic.

OK, sorry if I misunderstood.

I guess when it comes to forgiveness of things said on this site, the hug circle could be quite large, no?:D

One tends to get a thick skin on this site, yes. But, I understand we are moving toward a "kinder, gentler POA."

you gasped in horror when you found a place on your plane where the paint was a little chipped or peeled.

I try not remembering the time - it constantly changes. I tried that at 2:00 PM, then at 2:27 PM, and then again at 2:54 PM. Now I remember those times, but I forget why.

...you went missed on an ILS at minimums solo?
...you looked out and saw ice on the leading edge for the first time

... you were actually authorized to fly inside a TFR?

(That's my strange new one for the week.)

... you climbed out through a cloud layer with a passenger on board who wasn't a CFI, for the first time?

(A couple weeks ago...)

... you managed to change the oil on the airplane without taking the bottom cowl off and without spilling even a drop?

(Whoo hoo! That was Sunday! Quick drain and damn it, I've finally figured out how to catch the oil filter in a kitchen garbage bag without dropping the slippery thing!)

... that time (or times) that a DPE turned to you and held out their hand and said, "Congratulations!"

... the first time you pulled the release and flew without the assistance of any means of propulsion?

(Threw that one in for Tony. I'm getting the itch again. My wallet is quietly whimpering. And I'm wondering if Mile High Gliding would let me park my 182 on the grass near the gliders with permission. Driving to Boulder SUCKS!)
