Last month I was in a tiny remote farming village in Montana that had gambling in at least two places. The one I looked in had maybe 5 people in it.

But there was no pretty semi nude dancing ladies (which may really be men), no free breakfast and lunch buffets and no free alcoholic drinks.... :(

I've been to a ton of places, both as a tourist and for business, including several of the ones you list. While I might not enjoy living at all (or any) of the ones you listed, I can certainly find good reasons to go there as a tourist.

A large part of that is due to the homeless defecating in the streets.

Aww, come on. With all the amazingly talented BS tech marketers in the area there, they really should be able to find someone who could convince everyone thats “charming”, like buying a poorly engineered Apple product. LOL.

It doesnt have to be small towns either where "tourists" make a mess of things. I have a God awful commute in Atlanta...1.5 hours 1 way each day. In the summer time, people from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tenn. and so on passing through on their way to their vacation in Florida (or driving back home) all seem to choose to drive their fifth wheels or luggage rack Minivans in the left hand lane driving slow as a snail on I-75 during rush hour! For the love of God, if you need to pass through Atlanta, dont do it between 6am-9am and 4pm-7pm, locals would greatly appreciate it!

Reminds me of trying to listen to 122.8 on a Saturday at uncontrolled airports.

I'm convinced that the additional 1.5+ billion people born in the past 20 years have all decided to visit here at least once a year.

Rabble rabble, traffic, rabble, housing costs, rabble, population density, rabble...

Oh please don't get me started. Where I am we get people from all over. Just about every time I take the motorcycle in I have to play dodge 'em with witless cagers trying to figure out where they're going. Worse yet about half of them are glued to their phones.

Like Alaskan airspace with tourist pilots in the summer. Motorhomes, too. But tourism is an important part of the economy, so I smile and help when I can. Being nice is pretty darn easy.

That's mostly in places I wouldn't want to go anyway. I went for a walk to the beach yesterday. Not many people around on a beautiful weekend. I guess the locals decided they would rather partake in city activities that were off limits, now possible. They have only had outdoor options for a year so they flocked to this area. Glad to see them go too.

I think you misunderstood my punchline. You being a Floridian are a ‘them.’ And it was pure punchline. I’d of said it regardless of which State.

Actually, they have been coming here the last year in droves. Running away from Gotham to the country. The realtors have been happy, which is important to me.

My recent vacation with friends and the SO to Boston and Maine I ended up as the only driver for the week. I actually end up having fun driving like a madman in a brand new rental Jeep.

Cambridge has the advantage that it's close to the museum at Duxbridge. Nothing wrong with that.

Bingo! I was, too. 4th generation native of gasp! California, to boot. Glad I escaped that place over 25 years ago.

I'm indiscriminate when it comes to flogging rental cars. May as well bounce it off the rev limiter whether it be a Dodge Dart or an SS Camaro. How am I going to decide that I will/won't consider it as a future vehicle purchase if it won't make it through a week of highway on-ramp time trials? :)

Weak rant on an even weaker premise.

Sorry, but "You don't speed all the time like I want to" is bull ****. Try taking a chill pill and slowing down. You're blood pressure will be lower and you'll live longer.

Oh please. See scarcherpilot's post on traffic in Atlanta.

Our kids drove through "the connector", i.e I-75/I-85 in downtown Atlanta, daily, the are 8 lanes in EACH directions. They did this at 16 years old with a new driver's license. No accidents for all three of them. Wait, one had an accident when they stopped and someone rear-ended them. No accidents that were their fault.

    You guys are pansies.

Our middle daughter laughs at anyone in Lexington, KY talking about "traffic". She used to tell her classmates at UK, "the city I'm from has more people than your state".

If you live in a tourist location, guess what, there will be tourists. What a shocker.

Screw you hard with a pitchfork. I've routinely ridden in NY, LA, DC and even rode for a week in Mexico City, which is worse than the others combined. I sneer hard at Atlanta. I've driven (not ridden, not yet) there, and didn't think much of it. And my little home town beggars them all with all the witless folks running around. Thing about all those other places is most of the traffic is folks who know where they're going. Doesn't seem that way where I am.

I live just off California Highway 12, also known as Sonoma Highway. It's a two lane highway with precious few places where there are no double yellow lines and passing is allowed. The highway runs through Sonoma Valley with nothing but wineries and vineyards on both sides, and during the tourist season they crowd the highway stopping for tasting at every winery. Besides driving slowly and braking suddenly because they don't want to miss a winery driveway, they also are incapable of staying in their own lane after too much imbibing. I have to use Sonoma Highway to go literally anywhere; it's the only way out of my rural community. Fortunately, I'm retired so I don't have to deal with the craziness to commute to work every day.

This is exactly why I take the 101 to get to Santa Rosa and not the 12/121, even though that is a much shorter route.
