Question for United Mileage Plus flyers

Hello

For United Mileage Plus only:

If I fly on December 31, departing at 11 PM and landing on Jan 1, in what year will the miles accrue?

I need some miles for 2011 status and am thinking of a mileage run. Flight on Dec 30 with return flight departing on Dec 31. In order to actually have a few hours on the ground I'm thinking of visiting friends in San Francisco for brunch. I guess that would make it a 600 dollar hamburger.

Bonus would be to be able to spend the day in San Fran before heading to the airport - red eye flight back to IAD.

I'm not sure if a flight must END on Dec 31 for it to count in 2011.

Good question. I think you'd need to call UA and ask.

I'm debating a mileage run. I'm just over 7000 miles short of 1K for next year and have no travel plans between now and the end of the year (yay!!!).

My experience is date of BIS is what they will credit you with. I made 1k this year the hard way - 124 segments and counting.

That is the hard way. I'll stick with multiple trips to Europe and Asia. More miles per dealing with TSA.
