When i was going through emergency training for my ppl i was told in an off airport landing to pop the door in case the air frame crumples and you can't get the door open. Are you taught to pop the doors in a cirrus when you pull the chute? Looking at the video from a recent pull it impacts the ground pretty hard.

No.

That compromises the strength of the "cage" which is designed to protect the pilot and passengers.

Doors stay closed, and there's a hammer in the armrest to punch out a plexiglas window if the doors are jammed after ground contact.

So then would you recommend keeping the doors closed in a Cessna as well? I can't imagine it's that hard to kick out a window

Piper Cherokees have popping the door as part of their emergency procedures before an off airport landing. Probably because there's only one door and the windows are small.
