Narrowing my auto engine searches and I'll need a speed reducer. Most of the off-the-shelf options are geared or cog belt designs, and most of these are airboat products. I'd love to hear some firsthand experience with psrus and the pros and cons.

I'd prefer to build my own, but I'd like to fly sooner than later.

The search function on homebuiltairplanes.com will deliver a bunch of info (including quite a bit from people who design stuff like that for a living). However, they may have changed it to a pay for play site.

$100 per year! My wife married a feller, not a Rockefeller!

Yeah, it is really odd. It was free when I joined and I've never paid a dime other than making a donation or two. No way I'd pay $100/yr, but it is a great repository of information.

It is still free for a basic subscription ... :)

Basic subscription=email harassment to upgrade. You can see thread titles but no replies...

wondering how many didn't want to pay and left the HBA forum .. ?

HBA is not a pay site. There was talk of it but the new site owner backed off. Donations are "requested" but I think all they do is supress ads and maybe add some extra features.

The ads on HBA are horrific. Sex pills and Chinese rip off sites (Temu etc). Ad Blocker FTW.

Its also very clique-y and you must NOT EVER question the old heads or mods. I even paid for a year to support the site, never got any of the promised swag mailed to me.

Is it 'valuable' meh. Nothing you can't find elsewhere. The number of people actually building vs wannabe's is debatable... my guess is less than 10% are builders.

BS. Keep discussion within the forum rules (mainly no politics and no personal attacks) and you'll have no trouble there. (Disclaimer, I'm one of the mods there).

Some folks would complain if you hung them with a new rope ... ;)

I'll try again, but last time i attempted to sign up, it cost money. You kids are great and all, but i wouldnt pay to be here either.

Yeah nope. Cant read replies to posts without paid subscription.

Yes you can, though unfortunately it's not obvious. You do have to register, though. Click on "Register", then scroll down to "Basic membership (free)" and pick "choose plan".

Shoot. I registered in 2023 and my only options when i sign in are monthly or annual subscription. Otherwise i cant read replies, only initial posts.

I've contacted the board admin to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your help! Now, who here is a moderator at the EAA forum? Those guys banned me for life, for no reason given, and I had only just signed up!

That’s really weird. If you go back to the forum homepage, at the bottom of the page is a contact link where you could submit your questions concerning your registration. I hope you get that resolved but to be honest you’re not missing much over there. It’s a very lethargic forum and days go by with no posts whatsoever.

Don't ever question or ask a question of the mods is a big one.

I have nothing nice to say about HBA. Its a cesspool and the mods let the old heads run free. IIRC my last post there was 3 years ago.... no big loss.

One of the deadly HBA sins is bringing up a topic the old heads have declared settled. HOW DARE YOU QUESTION THEM!!!! hahahahaha
