Process for taking private runway out of service?

Not sure this is the correct forum for this so I can move it if warranted. My brother and I inherited farm property from my father who flew his RV4, Luscombe, and Cessna off the property. Others also used the runway to visit dad. It is on charts as well as labeled on Google Maps etc. We are thinking of putting it back into farm land but I am concerned about any requirements to notify the FAA or others that it will no longer be in use. Any advice?

Call the appropriate regional FAA airports office from the attached list below or contact your local FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO). Either one should be able to assist.

Don't forget the big X's on the runway....

Mark it PPR, NOTAM it permanently closed, and get the big yellow X's on each end. Don't go all crazy with the bulldozers like Mayor Daily did, that's overkill.

Consider that keeping it on the books as an airport may increase the property value should you decide to sell it.

There is no NOTAM service for non public private airports.
