Prepping for the new economy

They don't fall in the same place. :D My neighbor tried them right off the tree but they don't 'zactly look like the grocery store kind to me.

If ya leave the pears on the tree until they're yellow, and then eat 'em, you'll find out exactly why they don't look like the ones in the grocery store.

Likewise for things like tomatoes. Real tomatoes are a very red orange, as opposed to the pinkish ones you find in the store (which, BTW, suck compared to the real thing).

You need to try some REAL food, city boy!

Yeahbut, they, they gots holes in them.

I once got some organic dark matter from Whole Foods, but it spoiled before I could cook it. Next time I am getting the irradiated type from the local supermarket.

They've got a special green bag that will hold your dark matter and prevent it from outgassing.

So, cut out the icky bits and eat the rest. Y'know, animals have holes full of poop in them, but we don't eat that part, just the meat. ;)

Speak for yourself. I've heard a number of restaurant chains are out of business or going out of business. I bet all the fast food chains are doing just fine.

Dinner last night: Krfat Mac and Cheese + 1 can chicken

Lunch today: Ramen

All pasta, all the time.

I could get used to it.

Hail his noodley appendage

Dinner last night at the French restaurant next to the place you and I had dinner last Friday.
http://lapetitecreperie.net/

I have a tomato and squash soup with an onion tartlette for my appetizer
For my entree a Le foie de veau au Cognac (Prime veal liver in a cognac sauce)

And for desert a half order of bread pudding with pumpkin ice cream.

Of course some wine, two bottles of Chateau Tour De Guit, Cotes De Bourg, 03 were drunk by the table.

yummy

So with the failed bailout bil today I decided it was a good time to try out what may be in our future.

For dinner tonight instead of usual trip to our usual french restaurant for chef's choice night and a $40-$60 bottle of wine. We are livin' large on Hamburger Helper Chili-Mac and a $4/bottle of table wine!! Woo Hoo!

Ok the real reason is that someone needed comfort food from their youth after having a really tough couple of weeks and I thought this would make her feel more relaxed. She had been saying she kinda missed the old standbys for dinner every once and a while.

I think it has been at least 30 years since I had hamburger helper. Was it wrong to spice things up a bit by using some nice shallots and kosher salt in it to season?
You need a drug test.

I just cooked up Hamburger Helper Chili Mac, even doctored with some onions and hot sauce. Blech.

Now I got 3 more boxes of various kinds. This will definitely put me on a diet.

Hey it was her not me that wanted that stuff.

The taste is mostly flour, or maybe it's the box.

Now I know why I remember when they first advertised Hamburger Helper Italian, "It's not spicy" 'cause lord knows all those gourmands in the hills think Italian = spicy.

It's definitely no spice.
